New Final Fantasy Versus XIII for PlayStation 3 Details Available

50°
313w ago - IGN (linked above) has translated some new details from Famitsu about the Final Fantasy Versus XIII characters 'Noctis Lucis Caelum' and 'Stella Nox Fleuret'.

To quote: The names of the two were revealed at the Tokyo Game Show to be Noctis Lucis Caelum and Stella Nox Fleuret. Stella is described by the magazine as a princess in the Fleuret family.

She and Noctis are shown in the magazine's screens discussing their ability to "see light." This may not sound all that special at first, but in Versus XIII, it's an ability that Noctis suggests keeping quiet about. Stella appears to be more open about the matter, even asking Noctis when he gained the ability.

Wondering what the characters' names mean? Typical for the FNC series, the two names are Latin. The three parts of the hero's name mean "Night, Light, and Sky." The three parts of the heroine's name mean "Star, Darkness, and Sword." Darkness is also the meaning of Stella's country's name.

Director and character designer Tetsuya Nomura shared with the magazine a few additional details on the characters. Nomura feels that the trailer footage (which you probably haven't seen, unless you made it out to the Tokyo Game Show) tells us a lot about the personalities of the two characters.

Stella, for instance, is shown...

PlayStation 3 Trophy Cards Real Time Sync Announced

50°
313w ago - PlayFire, known for their custom gamer cards, has recently announced a major update to their PS3 trophy card system. They have expanded their selection to better suite the latest three new trophy patches that hit PlayStation 3 for the new games coming out with trophy support.

The update doesn't stop there! In addition to the new size and themes, PlayFire has introduced 'automated level calculation' based off the number & type of trophies you have fully integrated and functioning with a new level progress indicator so you no longer need to constantly adjust or guess your level.

Now, this all sounds cool, and much love to PlayFire for giving the PS3 users a custom gamer card solution, but seriously, when will Sony gives us real time syncing with a flash PSN gamer card? Adding every single trophy and game will get old fast.

All PS3 owners want, is a gamer card that will update in real time just like the XBox 360's. What is Sony waiting for? Could they be waiting to integrate the trophy reward system?

Or are they just not really worried about a very important thing that pimps out the PS3 in forums, Web sites, and social sites? For now, PlayFire will continue to be a good solution.

313w ago - As reported earlier today, PlayStation Portable Firmware Update v5.01 is now available for download.

Download: PSP Firmware Update 5.01 (US) / PSP Firmware Update 5.01 (EU)

To recap on the changes: We've since found an issue related to larger-capacity Memory Stick PRO Duos, which is addressed with update v5.01.

When downloading content from the Store to a PSP with an 8 GB or 16 GB Memory Stick Duo media inserted, you may see a message indicating that the media does not have enough free space, even when sufficient space exists. Update 5.01 resolves this issue.

PlayStation 3 Metal Gear Solid 4 Console Mod Signed by Kojima

100°
313w ago - Morpheon Mods has crafted an incredible MGS4-themed PS3 system that's not only completely blinged out, it's signed by Hideo Kojima himself. The quantity and scope of the modications applied are mind-boggling.

"The entire PS3 and controller is a combination of Carbon Fiber and Midnight Black done in our own digital camouflage technique ... The final product is a uniform finish that reflects like a mirror.

It has been specially fitted with 15 white micro LEDs that back light not only the marquee but also the etching so the artwork is viewable in complete darkness."

Best of all? You can actually buy this thing off eBay. Not only will you be getting the system, you'll also be getting an incredible grab-bag of rare MGS merchandise, such as a custom embroidered Otacon patch -- of which only 12 have been made in the world.

Finally, 15% of the sale's proceeds will go to Penny Arcade's charity, Child's Play. If you decide to make a bid, good luck. This really does seem like the most amazing piece of MGS fandom money will ever be able to buy.
