Sony Removes the PlayStation 2 Certification Process in Europe

309w ago - According to 1UP (linked above), Sony has confirmed that developers will no longer need to submit a game for content approval, which essentially makes the PlayStation 2 an open platform.

Sony believes that now Russian and Indian developers can create low-cost titles and release them in their own markets as one of the benefits in the removal of the certification process.

To quote: For developers and publishers hoping to release their titles to the console market, the content approval process can be notoriously stressful. Having a game bounced back by Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft indicates that changes need to be made to the near-finished product.

Sometimes this causes more errors to surface, potentially pushing the release date back. But what if the certification processes were to be removed entirely?

According to GameDaily, Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe is doing just that. While addressing an audience of Eastern European developers, Sony Europe developer relations manager George Bain said that developers will no longer have to submit a game for content approval, effectively making the PS2 an open platform. Bain noted that Russian and Indian developers can "create...

Maguire: No PlayStation 3 Price Cut in Time for Christmas

309w ago - Sony's Ray Maguire has said that there will always be pressure for a price drop on the PS3 by consumers, however he added that Sony has a business to run and has to do the right thing for its shareholders.

In short, to reiterate what has been suspected for several weeks now it appears like we can forget a possiblt PlayStation 3 price cut for the holidays.

To quote: Sony has rejected calls for a PS3 price cut in time for Christmas, claiming the perceived high price of the console won't be an issue during the crucial holiday season.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at the Gamer 3.0 conference in London yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment managing director Ray Maguire said that while there will always be pressure on price from consumers, Sony "has a business to run" and has to "do the right thing" for its shareholders.

Microsoft has enjoyed a 360 sales surge in the UK following the price cut in September, which saw the Arcade cut to £129.99, the 60GB cut to £169.99 and the Elite down to £229.99.

When asked if Sony was feeling any pressure to cut the price of the PS3 in time for Christmas, Maguire replied: "Well the pressure comes from the consumers obviously and so therefore there's always pressure on price, but you know we have a business to run, and we have...
