PS3 Firmware Update v2.41 brings new look for Platinum Trophy

100°
320w ago - It appears that today's PS3 Firmware Update v2.41 has brought along with it a new sporty-looking Platinum trophy.

While Platinum trophies used to look like a bizarre purple crown, the new version (pictured below) looks more like a sports trophy made of crystal.

To quote from Radiskull's comment HERE below:

"I've noticed 2 things with this 2.41 so far. The in-game XMB lag seems to be gone (at least for me), and the Platinum Trophy icon on the trophies page has a new look. It was previously a crown, and now it looks like a globe. Pic of it below."

Sony release an Official Statement on PS3 Firmware v2.40 Issues

50°
320w ago - Sony has finally issued an official statement regarding the launch of PS3 Firmware v2.41 and the release of v2.40. Courtesy of Sony's "unoffical" blog Three Speech it states:

"The PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3â„¢) system software version 2.41 is now available for update from July 8, 2008. With this update, we have fixed the problem that prevented a limited number of PS3s from activating properly after updating to version 2.40, when certain system administrative data were contained on the HDD.

For those users who have updated to version 2.40 and have experienced the problem that XMBâ„¢(XrossMediaBar) is not appearing, or no images are displaying on the screen, please contact Customer Service.

We have confirmed that for those users who have successfully updated to the version 2.40 and are able to activate the PS3 system, this problem will not occur on your PS3.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you and appreciate your understanding and continued support."

PS3 Firmware Update 2.41 is Now Available!

300°
320w ago - To quote from Eric Lempel (Director, PlayStation Network Operations) via the PlayStation Blog yesterday: As many of you know, we released PS3 Firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn't display after the update was installed. We've been able to fix the problem, and I'm happy to report that Firmware Update v2.41 will be released shortly.

That being said, those interested can grab PS3 Firmware v2.41 below!

More soon, when official word is available on a changelog. However, it's presumed this is a minor update, simply fixing an issue in 2.40 that prevented the XMB from displaying properly after installing on a limited number of PS3 consoles.
