Opinion: Sony Didn't Shaft Anyone with PS3 Firmware 2.70

500°
299w ago - I can't count how many times I and many others have told people to not get their hopes up with PS3 firmware updates. Sony didn't 'shaft' anyone.

They haven't even hinted there was a firmware update coming out for the PlayStation 3. Loads of blogs/Web sites have reported what could come in the next firmware update - but why all the hype? Sony hasn't said if the rumored features were true or not. Why are you pissed at Sony?

They're called rumors for a reason. Sure, some of them end up being true, but chances are it's nothing more than an eager fanboy begging for features the competition already has to offer.

Others who want to believe these rumors will probably end up being disappointed, maybe even angry if they're ultra-fanboys. It's like they're fighting with themselves (which is actually pretty funny).

On that note, I just want to say - keep the excitement meter to a maximum-minimum (add that to your vocabulary). If you find clues to what could possibly point to anything, tell people about it. And maybe, just maybe - it could end up being true.

550°
300w ago - Here is v1.4 of my PS3 Update Checker (Firmware Auto-Downloader).

Download: PS3 Update Checker v1.4 (Firmware Auto-Downloader)

Changes:-
1. The time of the next scheduled check is now displayed instead of "Delayed x minutes"
2. Form tidied up a bit, added separate Main, Settings and About tabs (see images below)
3. Efficiency: I've think i've resolved an issue with some threads not being disposed of properly - let me know if you notice any problems.
4. Now using the actual version string (e.g. "2.6000") instead of it's value equivalent (e.g. 2.6) - note this also affects filenames too.
5. Fixed "Clear log at application start" issue - which was ALWAYS clearing it!

Enjoy,

300w ago - Update: Paddy: Recently we had the good fortune of being added to Sony's mailing list for all first party titles. With all the speculative posts regarding the upcoming Firmware I just decided to chance my arm and send an email to my contact at Sony Ireland on Friday. That was the reply I got.

However she did inform me that the official announcement would be Monday, but as you can see there wasn't one. I do believe its coming today. It is a genuine post and not an April Fools joke.
