133w ago - Today Sega of America Community Manager Kellie Parker has shared some details on the after effects of zombie devastation in Yakuza: Dead Souls for the PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

To quote: When tragedy and devastation hit a place, even if it's a place you're very familiar with, it can be hard to remember what it used to look like. You may think you know every inch of a certain place, and then suddenly, it's unrecognizable.

To see how much things can change once the zombie invasion hits, here are some comparison screens of Kamurocho as it used to be and as it is now in Yakuza: Dead Souls.

Video: Balancing Control and Combat in Wheels of Destruction

133w ago - Lead Designer Peter Porai-Koshits has posted up a video trailer today showcasing the balancing control and combat in Wheels of Destruction for PS3 below.

To quote: That perfect balance of smooth vehicle control and weapon mastery was always our most difficult and most important task. It's so easy to do them separately:

Here's your car control - drive wherever you want; here's your weapon control - fire at will. However, putting them together is a bit of a puzzle.

At the beginning, our weapons were at a fixed crux to always shoot forward as the car moves. As a result, you could either shoot while at a standstill, or shoot in every direction, when rotating the car or chasing someone. Everything became a merry-go-round where 'A' chased 'B' and shot at him, while 'B' was chasing 'C' who in turn was chasing 'A'.

We knew we needed another approach. The tried-and-true approach is the have the left stick control the vehicle and the right stick control the camera and the direction of weapon fire.

This immediately resulted in lower game speed. It's rather difficult to drive somewhere while watching from the side, or backwards. You're driving into a wall within seconds. Ultimately, everyone ends up standing in their own corner, shooting at everyone....

PlayStation Suite SDK Open to Developers in April, PS Vita Support

133w ago - Following up on our previous article, today Engadget (linked above) reports that Sony's PlayStation Suite will be open to all developers beginning in April with PS Vita support followed by a full SDK coming afterwards.

The PS Suite SDK will allow licensed developers to create and run performance testing on all PlayStation-certified Android smartphones and tablets as well as the PS Vita.

This SDK Beta will be free of charge, while the official version will come later this year and require a $99 annual subscription in return for allowing devs to make their wares commercially available on Sony's platform.

133w ago - Today PlayStation 3 developers Grimm and Berion have released a PS3 Custom Firmware (CFW) Validator homebrew application for those seeking to check and validate the integrity of PS3 CFW / MFW PUP files downloaded from the Internet.

From the included ReadMe file, to quote: Custom Firmware Validator is a program designed mainly for veryfing downloaded or manually patched firmwares for PS3. This aplication compares checksums from the database with those which are being calculated on the currently open file.

If at least one would match, the following things will appear: the name of the firware and its short description, the option to show the list of additional functions and the option to visit the author's webpage, also one could copy a file onto USB with the proper directory stuctrure and its name (PS3, PSP, PSV).

Databases are external, written in the stardard XML and UTF-8 coded, so everyone can edit them and propose any possible...
