Hope Fades for the PlayStation 3 as a Comeback Player

400°
308w ago - Here we go again... the Wall Street Journal aren't feeling too good about the possibility of the PlayStation 3 console's success.

In their latest article (linked above) they doubt it will come back and assert that the PS3 is sagging, while the XBox 360 and Wii are widening their leads.

They pick up on a number of factors including the PS3's price and lack of 'attractive' and exclusive titles.

To quote: With Stringer saying, 'We will be profitable,' you can't cut price," says Michael Pachter, a research analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities in Los Angeles. He expects Sony to cut prices at the start of its new fiscal year in April, which could help boost sales.

Sony also is suffering from a lack of attractive titles that are exclusive to the PS3. Microsoft has hit the jackpot with two action-adventure game franchises, Halo and Gears of War, which are available only on the Xbox 360. Most of Nintendo's top games are Made in house and playable only on the Wii.

Sony used to have a stable of exclusive games. But in recent years, Microsoft has persuaded most game publishers to release highly anticipated games to it and Sony at the same time.

Last month, four of the five best-selling U.S. games were exclusive to either the Wii or Xbox 360, according to...

Video: Retro PlayStation Console Commercial

350°
308w ago - Remember when PlayStation had the best advertisement? (well they do now but there isn't much to compete against). Well I sure do. Below is a video to probably the BEST advertisement Sony has ever come up with.

My question to Sony is, what happened? They use to make commercials that moved consoles. Now they just have some that say stuff like; "We have more power!" or "We are the best!" I think if Sony brings back a few more commercials with the S.A.P.S. They will move a few more consoles. Heck this made me want to buy a PlayStation even though I have a PlayStation 3.

Anyway I hope you enjoy the video.

PlayStation Home: About Clubhouses, and the Not-PSP Interface

50°
309w ago - A quick interview with a rep from SCEA clarifies a few things about PlayStation Home. It won't change your life at Home, but it's a good read if you want to satisfy your curiosity.

Early on, Sony presented the virtual PSP as the navigation interface for PlayStation Home, but last month though, they revealed that this was no longer the case. SCEA explains:

We felt that PlayStation Home deserved its own navigation device, so we built a user interface that was dedicated to just that purpose. We have found the new user interface to generally be more intuitive for many of our users.

SCEA also clarified a few things about Clubhouses, in case you didn't already know about how it works:

A PlayStation Home user can be a member of up to five clubs (meaning they can be leaders or members of five clubs).

Every club has one leader (the owner who purchased the club [this costs $4.99]), up to four sub-leaders and up to 32 members.

In functionality, they work similarly to other personal spaces such as your apartment with some additional features such as a bulletin board where the leader, and optionally the sub-leaders, can leave messages for the whole club to read, such as tournament announcements or meeting times.

As with many aspects of PlayStation Home,...

Preview: White Knight Chronicles for PlayStation 3

309w ago - Recently 1UP shared their in-depth impressions of the offline portion of Level-5 and Sony's giant robot/fantasy RPG dubbed White Knight Chronicles as follows:

I don't get the feeling the game is a vibrant masterpiece -not yet, anyway- but it is certainly superior to Infinite Undiscovery, and corrects most of the problems with the deeply flawed Rogue Galaxy. Although WKC will turn out to be enjoyable comfort food for JRPG fans in whatever state it arrives on Western shores, a few simple tweaks here and there could improve it dramatically.

I hope this preview will serve to highlight some of the niggling interface problems I encountered in WKC - those little issues that all too often find their way creeping into otherwise highly polished Level-5 games.

Despite how Sony has promoted WKC since its announcement at Tokyo Game Show 2006, it is an MMORPG at heart. Indeed, online adventuring is ostensibly half the game: The giant robot fantasy you've been seeing images of for two years, or "Story Part," is but a one-player experience built on a foundation clearly erected to serve the "Live Part," a Final Fantasy XI-lite four-player online RPG.

To serve the Live Part, the game presents you with an incredibly elaborate...
