Global PlayStation 3 Releases for the Week of December 7, 2008

50°
292w ago - Sonic Unleashed. That's it. Though, if you're in Europe you won't even be getting your hands on that until next week.

Otherwise, Asia catches up with the rest of the world with Mirror's Edge. Hear that? That's the sound of your wallet breathing a sigh of relief. The end of year barrage of titles is over.

Here's the list in handy bullet point form:

US Games

• Sonic Unleashed

EU Games

• No new releases

Asian Games

• Mirror's Edge
• Wall-E

Release dates are constantly subject to change. Your PS3 will play import titles, so if you're a Euro Sonic fan go ahead and import it if you like. Keep in mind, though, that if there's any DLC in the future, you will have to grab it from the American PSN Store.

Americas Sales for the Week Ending November 29, 2008

50°
292w ago - Black Friday sales for the video game industry were excellent. Nintendo sold 1.8m systems for the week ending November 29 while machines from rivals Microsoft and Sony combined to sell about 1.1m units.

Software sales were quite strong as well, but the vast majority of the spike this week is simply from the fact that Americans spent $10 billion ($30/per American if every American shopped) on Black Friday according to various reports, and a lot of that went to video games.

Last year, Black Friday week sales were strong as well, but Wii, DS, and Xbox 360 saw significantly better sales this year. PS3 had the weakest Black Friday to Black Friday growth, at 13%, and PS2 declined.

Sony's machines accounted for about 1 out of 3 video game machines sold (31%) during Black Friday week in 2007, this year that ratio is down to about 2 out of 9 (22%) as the shares for Microsoft and Nintendo increase.

Although Wii had a smaller percentage increase, it increased almost as much as DS did in raw units sold (470,000 vs. 610,000). Five Xbox 360s sold for every two that sold last week, an impressive increase.

PSP had a percentage increase almost as great as PS2, and DS in percentage, but it was only about a 170,000 unit increase. PS2 and PS3 each saw increases of almost 100,000 units...

293w ago - This week marks the end of the brutal end-of-year release period. We're ending on a high note with Prince of Persia's worldwide release.

We've been looking forward to this one for quite some time, so hopefully it'll live up to expectations. Here's the full release list:

EU Games
• Prince of Persia
• Brain Challenge

Asian Games
• Brain Challenge
• Prince of Persia

PS3 games are region free, so go ahead and import any games you fancy. Try to keep in mind, however, that DLC is always region locked. So your US game will only read content downloaded from the US PSN Store.

295w ago - Konami announced today that the Meme expansion should be available for download next week. November 25th to be exact, which places the release on a Tuesday. I would have expected it on a Thursday, but I suppose most be too busy with the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Meme expansion of course adds three new maps to Metal Gear Online, along with two new characters; Revolver Ocelot and the lovely Mei Ling, who has the means to transfix enemies by strutting her stuff.
