Sony Announces UMD Passport for PlayStation Vita Consoles

159w ago - While it's not surprising news, today Sony [Register or Login to view links] that PlayStation Vita owners will be able to download a UMD Passport Registration Application for UMD support on PS Vita consoles, which uses both cartridges and digital downloads according to the official specs.

To quote from Kotaku (linked above): "Starting Dec. 6, the UMD Passport service will start in Japan. Here's how it works: Download a free app called "UMD Registration Application". After that, enter your UMD game disc into your PSP, and according to the on-screen prompts, register your UMD via your PSN Account. The UMD will then be available for purchase.

Once the PS Vita is released in Japan on Dec. 17, you can then download the title on your new Sony handheld. According to Sony, the games will be available at an "agreeable price".

Currently, 40 game companies are offering 200 UMD titles as part of Sony's UMD Passport program. The digital versions of the games are priced anywhere between ¥100 (US$1.29) to ¥2,400 ($31).

To quote: Get your thumbs ready for a brand new foot-tappin', song-hummin', eyeball-stabbin' adventure!

Today, Patapon 3 fans will be able to partake in a slew of new multiplayer adventures. Take on Stone Golems, Salamanders, Deth squads and prove your Patapon-greatness.

If this isn't enough, there are also two new missions against the giant eye-sore (ha!) Darantula - this evil life-sucking nemesis will challenge even the best of rhythm-keepers with its deadly poison attacks.

Once you survive (make that if you survive) this deadly monster, rile up a squad-o-four to take on the dreaded sandworm Dokakanel – he's back, and he's angry!

Square Enix Announces a Winter of RPGs Campaign on PSN

160w ago - Square Enix Product Manager Charles McCarter has announced news today of their upcoming Winter of RPGs Campaign on PlayStation Network, which includes popular titles Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy V, and Final Fantasy VI.

To quote: I'm here to announce Square Enix's "Winter of RPGs" campaign.

In some parts of North America, winter seems to have gotten an early head start. And while that brings a lot of headaches for those who have to contend with ice and snow, it's also a perfect time for us to announce our latest group of titles coming to PSN.

Sony Announces PlayStation Home Redesign Arrives This Thursday

To quote: The next stage of PlayStation Home's evolution will arrive on your PS3 this Thursday, November 3rd.

This enormous update integrates games, quests, community events and user-generated content, while providing players with additional navigation, shopping, socialization, and entertainment options.

160w ago - PlayStation Network Community Manager Morgan Haro has announced that starting today NFL fans can enjoy halftime savings on Sunday Ticket which has been dropped to $199.99.

To quote: It's been a great year for football; especially if you've got a PS3. Since the first game kicked off at the start of the season, PS3 users connected via PlayStation Network have been able to watch NFL Sunday Ticket right on their PS3 every Sunday.
