16w ago - Today at GDC 2014 Sony's Shane Bettenhausen of Developer Relations announced that new PS4 Tools and Middleware are coming to PlayStation 4 with details below.

To quote: Happy GDC! Today we're announcing that we will continue to strengthen our support for the global independent developer community by introducing more tools and middleware solutions for PS4.

SCE has entered into strategic partnerships to bring new native solutions from popular middleware vendors GameMaker: Studio and MonoGame to PS4, further expanding an already robust set of development tools.

We're also announcing that fully integrated solutions for Unity are now available for PS3 and PS Vita, with the highly anticipated early access version for PS4 coming in April 2014.

Unity, GameMaker: Studio and MonoGame represent the most popular game development tools leveraged by universities and independent developers alike, and are used for both prototyping and full-scale game development.

Jointly developed by SCE and YoYo Games, a GameMaker: Studio-native solution for PS4 is now available free for all SCE-licensed developers, making it even easier for developers to bring their 2D games to the more than 6 million global PS4 owners.

16w ago - Sony Worldwide Studios President [Register or Login to view links] officially introduced Project Morpheus ($249-299 targeted price), a Virtual Reality (VR) System for PS4 today at the [Register or Login to view links] with details below!

To quote: Greetings from GDC 2014! Earlier this evening, I had the pleasure to introduce Project Morpheus, SCE's prototype virtual reality (VR) system that works with PS4. Virtual reality is the next innovation from SCE that we believe will shape the future of games.

I have long dreamed about VR and the possibilities it brings in regards to game development. This new technology will deliver a sense of presence, where you as the player actually feel like you're inside the game and your emotions feel that much more real.

Our current prototype for Project Morpheus features a head mounted display with 1080p resolution and a 90 degree field of view. Accelerometer and gyroscope sensors built into the head mounted unit as well as PlayStation Camera accurately tracks head orientation and movement, so as your head rotates, the image of the virtual world rotates intuitively in real-time.

Project Morpheus also features our new 3D audio technology that re-creates stereoscopic sounds in all directions and changes in real-time depending...

Sony Announces Indie Horror Game Home Coming to PS4, PS Vita

50°
17w ago - Benjamin Rivers Inc Director Benjamin Rivers announced via Sony's Blog today that Indie horror game Home is coming to PS4 and PS Vita.

Below are the details, to quote: Home was a welcome surprise to horror game lovers when it launched on PC in 2012, and it delighted a whole new audience on mobile in 2013.

Its simple controls and heavy reliance on rich sound and atmosphere, though, make it a great choice for a console system - so I'm happy to announce that Home is making the jump to PS4 and PS Vita this year!

Part of Home's charm is that it's entirely dependent on the player; it isn't a march toward Ending A or Ending B - it's the journey itself that is affected, as all your little choices subtly change how your character perceives the world around him. It's a game that people love playing and then discussing afterward to compare notes and theories.

More importantly, it's a game that's meant to be played alone, in the darkest room (or alley, or barn, or deep, dank forest) you can find. On PS4, this means you can turn off the lights, crank that sound system and let the dread wash over you.

If you're extra brave, you can play the game on your Vita - somewhere scary, where no one will find you, and with a fat pair of headphones, of course.

Sony Details the 19 Classes of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

100°
18w ago - Square Enix Community Project Manager Hergen Thaens detailed the 19 classes of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for PS4 fans today.

To quote: Welcome to another update on Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - the biggest one so far. A lot of you have probably played the first beta phase from February 22nd to March 3rd - barely enough time to get your hands on one or two classes in a single city, right? Well then, let's introduce you to the others!

You're free to start in any of the three cities: Gridania, Ul'dah, or Limsa Lominsa. Most of you will want to get used to the game first, so you can play solo and get acquainted with everything.

Up until level 15, you've got tons of local quests and adventures that await you - and from level 15 onwards, the whole world opens up to you as you get access to the airship and the other cities.

If you want to play with your friends, you simply have to choose classes with the same starting cities, and you can group up right away.

Once you've acquired a class, you can change to it at any given time (outside of combat and dungeons) by simply equipping the weapon associated with it. It's that simple!

So, let's get started, shall we?
