550°
345w ago - Rockstar Games just confirmed that they have released a patch for the PlayStation 3 version of GTA IV which was causing issues with online play.

Specifically, it prevents Gamespy's servers from being overloaded, and therefore reduces the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up.

To quote: Rockstar Games has released a GTA IV patch for Playstation 3 today that prevents Gamespy's servers from being overloaded and therefore reduces the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up.

We continue to monitor the performance of the game both on and offline and will provide further updates as necessary. We want to assure everyone that, together with our hardware partners, we continue to strive to give our fans the best possible interactive entertainment experiences possible.

This update will ensure that everyone will experience Grand Theft Auto IV the way it was intended. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

Rockstar working around the clock to fix GTA IV freezing issues

346w ago - A Rockstar customer service representative has issued the following statement regarding the freezing issues PS3 owners of GTA IV have experienced:

"A patch is being worked on around the clock to address the issues. It's bound to be. That's how they address this sort of thing. It is being worked on. We're looking into it. You will hear from us if a patch is released. A patch is usually the way it's been done."

The rep also said that they have not been told what is causing the game to freeze and that they are "devoid of information at the moment".

To quote: We were also given some tips on how to combat the freezing experienced on the PS3 version of the game, including:

Completely remove the game from the system but leave saves behind.

Turn the console off for 15 minutes without any cables plugged in, then turn it on and try again.

Play without access to the Internet.

Turn off the auto save function and the controller vibration setting.

Rockstar feels 'terrible' about GTA IV lockup issues

100°
346w ago - Multiple reports surfaced on Tuesday suggesting that both Xbox 360 and PS3 systems are freezing up during playback of Grand Theft Auto IV.

The issue is said to affect an unknown number of Xbox 360 and PS3 systems, either during the opening cut scene of the game or while trying to exit multiplayer mode, resulting in an inability to advance in the game, or worse, an inability to play any game on the affected console.

Multiple GamePro, Kotaku, NeoGAF, and Shacknews users have complained, with no consensus of a proven user fix.

Rockstar was not immediately available for comment when contacted by GamePro, however, a Rockstar support representative told Kotaku on Tuesday: "I feel terrible about this," adding that the company is aware of the issue and working on a solution.

Unfortunately, the developer has yet to diagnose the problem or offer a timeline as to when a fix (or replacement disc) might be provided.

Gamers believe Rockstar is covering up PS3 freezing issue

250°
346w ago - A thread on the US PlayStation boards (linked above) about GTA IV freezing issues has now reached over 1,600 comments from angry gamers requesting a patch ASAP.

The forum members have been angered further as videos of the game freezing uploaded to YouTube have been removed due to a "copyright claim by Take 2 Games."

Many now believe Rockstar are now trying to cover up the issue. We did however manage to find one video of the game freezing from cooleyre as you can see below... how long it lasts is undetermined though. :P

Rockstar: If GTA IV freezes, erase Game Data and Start Over

200°
346w ago - According to mclaren777 at the US PlayStation Forums, a Rockstar employee has said that those who are experiencing problems with GTA IV freezing should "erase the Game Data (the original install and the game saves) and then start over." This apparently solves the issue.

To quote: I had this same problem so I called Rockstar. The lady on the phone told me to erase the game data (the original install and the game saves) and then start over. I did what she told me to do and the freezing problem went away.

And can the person who made this thread please include this information in the original post?

Edit: I have a 60GB NTSC launch unit.
