Spanish Police Detain Anonymous Members in PSN Cyberattacks

164w ago - Today the NY Times (linked above) and [Register or Login to view links] are reporting that Spanish Police have detained three [Register or Login to view links] in connection with the recent PSN cyberattacks with [Register or Login to view links] arrested in Turkey.

To quote from the Times: "The Spanish police said Friday that they had apprehended three men suspected of computer hacking in connection with recent cyberattacks on Sony's PlayStation Network as well as corporate and government Web sites around the world.

The National Police identified the three as the local leadership of the shadowy international network of computer hackers known as Anonymous, which has claimed responsibility for a wide variety of attacks.

Anonymous is made up of people from various countries organized into cells that share common goals, the police said, with activists operating anonymously but in a coordinated fashion.

One of the three "hacktivists," a 31-year-old Spaniard, was detained in the southern city of Almeria sometime after May 18, the police said. He had a computer server in his apartment in the northern port...
 

Sony PlayStation Network Security Update, SOE Now Down

169w ago - Today Sony's Senior Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media Patrick Seybold has made available another PlayStation Network security update to clarify some common PSN concerns, as follows:

On Tuesday, April 26 we shared that some information that was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. Once again, we'd like to apologize to the many users who were inconvenienced and worried abut this situation.

We want to state this again given the increase in speculation about credit card information being used fraudulently. One report indicated that a group tried to sell millions of credit card numbers back to Sony. To my knowledge there is no truth to this report of a list, or that Sony was offered an opportunity to purchase the list.

One other point to clarify is from this weekend's press conference. While the passwords that were stored were not "encrypted," they were transformed using a cryptographic hash function. There is a difference between these two types of security measures which is why we said the passwords had not been encrypted. Sony Adds PS3 Firmware 3.60 Auth on PSN, CFW Patch Incoming

176w ago - Last week PS3 Firmware 3.60 was released, and as of today Sony has updated the platform authentication xi passphrase for PSN resulting in Custom Firmware users (via FckPSN and similar methods) being blocked, however, according to IRC reports a PlayStation 3 CFW patch update shouldn't be far off.

To quote from PSX-Scene (linked above): "We are expecting sporadic PSN maintenance from approx 9am-3pm PST Thursday 03/17/2011. We apologize for the inconvenience."

That message was the last thing that CFW users got to see today, later after the network was back up everyone found they been kicked off their PSN!

Sony has finally enabled the new v3.60 auth system which was found hiding in the new firmware they had released last week!

PS3ITA PS3 CFW v1.1 Now Working with PSOne Games on PSN

PS3ITA CFW v1.1 Changes include the following, to quote roughly translated:

  • Changed one patch.
  • Fixed error 80028f17 (All PSX games downloaded from the store now work!)
