157w ago - Here is my WIP project on PS2 HDD support and discless ELF launching from the PS3 XMB. First off I'd like to thank w1zard0f07 for being able to at least try helping me out with this one.
Over the last month or so I have been working on a little trick for the Phat Model PS3s. In summary FFXI is PS2 title that requires PS2 HDD support which is added via this pkg ([NPIA00001] PS2 System Files).
From there a "PS2 partition is made", which translates to an IMAGE.DAT file being made to exactly 12GB (according to GameOS/FTP this file is 0kb large)
The contents of this HDD is listed in the attached "Blank PS2 HDD.txt" (The partition list is corrupted according to w1zard0f07, quote "APA partition table on your dump file is broken")
The XMB icon is not launchable by this point, and requires the PlayOnline Viewer to be installed. This undergoes a certificate process, and then continues to install PlayOnline viewer to the "PS2 HDD." It is after this point the XMB icon is launchable, and goes straight into the PS2 mode reading from PP.SCUS-97269.1000.POLVIEWER and launching...
161w ago - A few days back we reported on a guide to compile the PSL1GHT Open-Source SDK, and today Matt_P and bigboss have announced that they have added PSEye support to the PSL1GHT SDK while n4ru has updated HeXMBoot (based off XMBoot) to compile XMBoot packages for PS3 JailBreak users.
162w ago - Update: According to OriginalGamster.com, Konami confirmed that the new Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 box listing trophies is unfortunately a misprint.
Today PlayStationLifeStyle.net (linked above) reports that the new Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 box lists PlayStation 3 Trophies concluding that long-awaited PS3 trophy support for the Konami title is incoming!
To quote: "The new "Greatest Hits" packaging for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is currently hitting retailers everywhere, and the rear of the game case offers much hope for trophies finally being enabled for the PS3 exclusive.
While this isn't a confirmation, and we have seen some mistakes on game cases in the past, it certainly offers a glimmer of hope for a MGS4 trophy patch.
On the rear of the new MGS4 Greatest Hits edition case reveals – as seen on all PS3 games – a short list of PlayStation Network features available in the title. The list shows it as having online multiplayer, voice chat and... trophies!"
166w ago - Previously it was reported that PSGroove improvements would soon allow it to support all PS3 Firmware versions, and today the official PS JailBreak site reports that they also plan to support all PS3 Firmware versions and that PS3 Backup Manager v1.1 is destined to arrive shortly after October 20th and include some new features.
To quote: "We have now shipped all our loyal dealers and we assure you, the wait has been worthwhile. We apologize for the delay of the support we promised, but it is indeed coming.
We will officially be releasing our support for new firmwares by October 20th, and Backup Manager v1.1 a few days after. It will have all the features that clone makers have been providing, along with some new ones that will blow you all away.
As mentioned in previous news updates, we are still receiving large amounts of mail about our high price compared to our competition, so we will reiterate. Clones are low quality, have high defect rates and will only work on firmware 3.41.
So for all you dealers out there, why buy a product that limits your market? Ours allows you to distribute to all end users and provides your clients with more options."
168w ago - Team RamRod's Brandon Akiaten has confirmed that High Velocity Bowling for PS3 ships today on Blu-ray with PlayStation Move support.
To quote: Over the last few years, lots of High Velocity Bowling add-on DLC has been released and we've collected all the content in one convenient Blu-ray Disc package, including over 20 unique characters and themed alleys, trick shot packs, and other fun content.
In addition, the game also supports stereoscopic 3D and PlayStation Move functionality included on the disc to really simulate a genuine bowling swing. The game's a blast to play and lets up to four friends play offline, or go head-to-head online to see who the better bowler is.
If you already own the original High Velocity Bowling game on PSN, you can get the PlayStation Move add-on functionality for free if you are a PlayStation Plus member. If you aren't a member of PlayStation Plus, don't worry: the PlayStation Move add-on is planned to be released in the near future.
