235w ago - Well, it's not actually an E3 post but if Sony held an E3 for PS3 Devs they may have offered these, right?
Today two very nice guys (Garfield and another, whose nickname we will add if he wishes) have shared PS3 Debug/Test Firmware 2.76 and 2.60 with the resident PS3 Devs here- THANKS guys!!!
Unlike many PS3 Firmware updates that block access to certain folders and directories in dev_flash, 2.76 allows full read access to dev_flash, so you can access the PS1 and PS2 emu files, as well as all of the system sprx's, some self's, xml's and rco's.
We don't yet have the official 2.76 changelog, but below are some changes (excluding all the bugfixes) from 2.6:
• HDD boot games and game data can now be deleted from the system software menu that appears when the PS button is pressed during the game. However, data currently in use by the game is, as before, not deletable.
• The keyboard function keys F17 - F24 are now reserved for the system. Thus, it will no longer be possible...
251w ago - Just about a week ago PS3 Debug Firmware 2.52 surfaced, and today a slightly older version 2.42 has also leaked to the Internet. Needless to say, if you are already on 2.52 Debug Firmware then 2.42 is only useful for collectors at this point.
For those curious, PS3 Debug Firmware 2.42 first surfaced on this French site, but was recently removed... special thanks to Doc, and of course karl.
Finally, if you are seeking to buy a PS3 TEST/Debug console omegmatic posted a shiny new one for sale HERE today. A picture of it is below, and it includes the following:
• 60 GB HDD
• System software 2.30
• Slots for SD and minSD, CompactFlash and Sony MemoryStick Pro
• Four USB jacks
• Comes with original SixAxis controller, but I will throw in a DualShock 3 instead for a little extra, either will work
252w ago - Over a month ago papa44 made mention HERE that he was planning to share PS3 Debug Firmware Update 2.52 with our community. Sadly, after stating he was uploading it he never replied again... and to date has been online only lurking.
Just recently I ran across it myself, but since it didn't come with any documentation all I had was a PS3UPDAT.PUP file that WinHex showed as being "2.52" (122 MB - 128,615,182 bytes).
The good news is, CJPC was able to successfully install and confirm for us that it is indeed a legitimate PS3 2.52 Debug Firmware update file, and as a result we have now added it to our PS3 Debug Firmware section for those interested!
Some changes CJPC noticed during his brief time testing it out were as follows: It now includes Network emulation and you can now save the PUP files on the PS3 HDD and access them later.
For example, if you click System Update, then Install from HDD, it will give you a list of PUPs stored on the HDD which can be installed. Additionally, all of the PS3 2.52 dev_flash files...
286w ago - This is a few days old, but since nobody submitted it here goes: Recently PS3 Debug Firmware Update v2.30 was posted on the Spanish Web site Elotrolado linked above.
The file size is 110 MB (115,403,104 bytes), and it is available from our PS3 Debug Firmware section or download it linked below, however, unless you own a PS3 Debug/TEST console the most it will allow you to do is use XVISTAMAN2005's Install Debug Firmware on a Retail PS3 method to browse the non-functional menus.
287w ago - The retail counterpart is rumored to be released during mid to late June, however, recently we had a chance to check out PS3 Debug/TEST Firmware v2.40 (116 MB - 122,268,311 bytes).
Below is a video of it in action, displaying some of the new features. As expected, we can confirm from 2.40 onwards, the system software can be called any time during the gameplay. It appears the in-game XMB does not work while playing PS2 titles, probably the same with PS1 titles as well although we didn't have a PS1 game handy to try.
The video is slightly better quality than the previous PS3 TEST SD Launcher 1.00 Video as video capture was used this time instead of our old camera... as there is no need to view the TEST PS3 in the video this round.
