246w ago - At GDC 2009 PlayStation Home director Jack Buser stated that Sony is planning to launch at least three Home spaces a month.
To quote: "You'll see about three new spaces launched a month - I'll be shocked if we ever go under that number, we have so much in the pipeline," Buser said.
He mentioned that a recent "good space" (we're guessing Resident Evil 5) had a quarter of a million visits a week in the US, with 75 per cent of visitors spending more than 10 minutes there - something that far exceeds consumer's usual involvement with advertising, he argued.
Space devlopment takes four to six months, and Sony has new technology that can't be seen in any space currently in Home, Buser said.
Buser's talk, "Developer opportunities in PlayStation Home", amounted to a sales pitch aimed at developers and publishers.
"Online games consoles have had the concept of the friends list for some time," he said, splitting online friends into two groups - those you meet online, and those you know in real life.
"We noticed at Sony a problem with the friends list with the first group - you don't really know them. We wanted a place, a neutral environment, where players could go and really get to know each other outside of the context of a particular game," said Buser....
248w ago - Psyonix Studios developer Corey David let the cat out of the bag this week regarding upcoming PlayStation 3 firmware update 2.7.0.
In discussing a bug with the studio's game, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, David let slip in a forum post that the update is scheduled for release later this month, to quote:
"I've been working with Sony trying to reproduce and solve the PSN sign-out issues some of you report.
Any info you can generate will be really helpful. Sony mentioned a bug they fixed with the next system software update (2.70) that might resolve these issues, but we have to narrow it down and verify it's the same problem to be sure it's that and not something we need to fix on our end.
IIRC it will drop later this month. And contain lots of fun new fixes. I'm excited about this one, lots of new stuff.
Though, I dont think I can mention any of them just yet.
It is not uncommon for developers to recieve advance copies of hardware updates so that they can ensure compatibility with their software. After the internet caught wind of the premature announcement the post was swiftly edited to remove any reference to the 2.7.0 release,...

260w ago - Multiple sources have confirmed to VG247 that Free Radical is, indeed, closed.
Edge has posted up a lengthy account of recent events at the firm from what looks to be a good source. Apparently founder Dave Doak left earlier this month, and is now in the process of setting up a new developer with co-founder Steve Ellis called Pumpkin Beach.
Free Radical was working on Battlefront III for LucasArts until recently, but the project was pulled, supposedly relocating at Rebellion.
Haze is cited by the Edge source as being the final nail in the coffin, along with the failure to seal the deal with Lucas.
"They had already started working on TimeSplitters 4, and had been for over a year, but due to the failure of Haze and the deal falling through with Lucas, they couldn't get a publisher to back them," said the source.
"They had a last ditch attempt last week down South somewhere, but it came to nothing so I think that was the last hope."
The gossiper continued: "People have been leaving in droves due to lack of security, poor treatment of staff, better offers and guaranteed work from other local developers such as Monumental Games and one in Derby whose name escapes...
