GTA IV to come to PC this November?

50°
311w ago - With the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV upon us, many Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners are more than ready to get started on the title, but will PC gamers have something to look forward to this November?

According to German video games retailer citydisc.ch, a PC version of GTA IV will be released on November 30 of this year.

Back in January, the same rumor began circulating that Rockstar would release a PC version, but in October. That rumor cited retail plans.

Previous titles of the Grand Theft Auto series have taken between six to eight months to arrive on the PC after debuting on console, which makes a November release plausible.

Grand Theft Auto IV heads onto both the Xbox 360 and PS3 Tuesday. Rockstar Games has yet to confirm if the game will ever see the light of day on PC.

GTA IV expected to top 9 million sales at launch

311w ago - There's no Burger King tie-in or special flavor of Mountain Dew. No commercial directed by Peter Jackson, or even an action figure.

The run-up to "Grand Theft Auto IV" has been considerably less ballyhooed than last year's over-the-top "Halo 3" debut. Yet when "GTA IV" parks on store shelves on April 29, the latest entry in the controversial video game franchise could be the most lucrative launch in entertainment history – and one that many people may not even know about.

Analysts predict Take-Two Interactive Software and Rockstar Games' open-world, action-driving game will easily top last year's record-breaking $300 million first-week sales of Microsoft and Bungee Studios' first-person shooter "Halo 3" – and without a similar marketing bonanza.

With the launch of "GTA IV" on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Rockstar is seemingly steering in one direction: the downlow.

"Rockstar wants to control the message all the time," says Sam Kennedy, editorial director for the gaming site 1UP.com. "They want this to be seen and perceived exactly the way they want. That's why – outside of the official trailers they released – people haven't seen a lot of gameplay footage in advance of 'GTA IV' shipping. They want to build that hype."

Take-Two and Rockstar declined to...

PS3 GTA IV runs at Lower Resolution than X-Box 360

500°
311w ago - Some knowledgeable folks over at Beyond3D have found that the X-Box 360 version of GTA IV runs at a resolution of 720p (1280–720), but the PS3 version only runs at 630p (1120–630).

To quote Quaz51: Regardless PS3 media look better for me, the light and atmosphere is more real (maybe HDR vs X360 MDR, post-process...)

A game store employee reiterates stating: Played both versions in the game store last night where I work, both on 720p HDMI (PS3 HDMI output 1.3b, X-Box 360 HDMI output 1.2).

The PS3 version is smoother/better visually in my eyes, 360 had pop-up issues. Conclusion: PS3 installs to HDD, which everyone knows its faster than DVD9 disc.

Has GTA IV changed Video Gaming forever?

311w ago - GTA 4 goes on world-wide release tomorrow (although numerous retailers have starting selling it), and while it'll undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest games ever made, its effect on the industry as a whole might not be so great.

You see, GTA 4 is so brilliant, so far ahead of pretty much ever other game released on consoles to date, that it's going to be hard to get back into the groove of playing 'normal' games.

It might well be unfair to compare every future release to GTA 4, but it has set a benchmark that, even only a few years into this console generation, might not be bettered. Open-city action games are likely to feel the full impact, with THQ's Saints Row 2 and Midway's This is Vegas both looking dated before they've even been released.

It's not that they look like bad games; they just aren't going to be GTA 4. I loved the original Saints Row and, perhaps foolishly believed GTA 4 wouldn't be all that different. In reality GTA 4 seems like it's a generation ahead in terms of game design.

It would be wise for publishers to hold off on new releases for a while. GTA 4 took me 40 hours to play through, and that took quite a bit of dedication over a few days. If you're only playing it for an hour or two per day and want to dabble with online multiplayer, you're...
