Grand Theft Auto IV PC Bugs: Rockstar Suggests Solutions

50°
312w ago - Rockstar compiled a list of possible solutions to user-reported Grand Theft Auto IV PC bugs:

Installation

You must have Vista Service Pack 1 or Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed PRIOR to installing and running Grand Theft Auto IV PC.

Right-click 'My Computer -> Properties' to see if you have the latest Service Packs installed, and if not check Windows Update and download before trying to install the game.

Installing on a non-English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, or Russian Operating System

There is a known issue with non-English, French, Italian, German, Spanish or Russian operating systems, where unsupported characters will appear on the initial installation screen (this screen then remains present in the background throughout the installation process).

To bypass this issue and install the game:

- Select the larger button at the bottom left of the initial installation screen and you will be moved on to a language select screen.
- Select either English, French, Italian, German or Spanish and the rest of the installation will continue in that language.
- At the end of the installation, the screen containing unsupported characters...

Zelnick: Next Grand Theft Auto Could be Subscription Based

100°
314w ago - At the same BMO Capital Markets' conference last week in New York where he gave an update on upcoming GTAIV DLC and Chinatown Wars, Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick offered a glimpse further down the road. In his "Negative Approach" blog for cnet, Dave Rosenberg related these remarks from Zelnick:

The Holy Grail is taking a business, already a very large and successful business that's focused on packaged goods... and turning that into a subscription business or a semi subscription business where we have an ongoing relationship with consumers, giving them products that they want. Who's better positioned to do that than the company that has the top franchises?

It isn't much of a stretch here to start connecting the dots. The Grand Theft series definitely fits the bill as a "successful business that's focused on packaged goods," and it's also the top of their franchise properties. And though delayed, the DLC plan for GTAIV offers an ideal test run for a "semi subscription" model along the lines Zelnick suggests.

Not that they needed more incentive, but Watching World of Warcraft once again flexing its muscle with the release of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion must spur them on that much harder.

Everyone asks, "Can a console game tap into the World of Warcraft meme?" and "what...

Grand Theft Auto IV XBox 360 DLC Not Coming Until Next Year?

50°
315w ago - While speaking with Variety, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser gave some disappointing news about the downloadable content that Xbox 360 user's were promised to come out by the end of the year.

While its still on track to be released for Microsoft exclusively, he's just not sure if we'll see it by the end of the year.

"Me: On another topic, I have to ask you about the "GTA IV" downloadable content you're doing. Do you still expect that to come out this year?"

"DH: I'm not sure. It's going well. But we don't know a date. We hope to be announcing that in the next few weeks. We're still figuring out a few things. We're more focused on quality than dates, always have been. But the development is going really good. It's shaping up to be something we're very proud of. That was our goal."

By saying "Not sure," we're 'pretty sure' that means we won't be seeing any new content until next year. Considering as we write this article, the date is November 9th – 52 days until the year ends. If they don't even have a date set and their still developing it, we're probably not seeing it till 2009.

Here is even more proof. Houser said the content of...
