Heavy Rain Online for PS3 - Previously on Four Days - Part 1

50°
251w ago - As a follow-up to last week's article, today European Product Manager Alex Pavey has shared a glimpse into the Heavy Rain Online Experience, previously on Four Days, Part 1.

To quote: Four Days: The Heavy Rain Online Experience kicked off last week, and it's been great to watch thousands of you following the early stages of the investigation.

A trail of clues led participants across the net, and they witnessed the disturbed and suspicious ranting of someone who may prove to be a potential suspect.

Some participants also discovered that their credentials gave them exclusive access to a parallel investigation taking place in PlayStation Home...

This week is where the real work begins. A crime has taken place, and you will be tasked with supporting the investigation. Analyse the crime-scene - question an eyewitness - assess the evidence. The consequences will be great, but the rewards may be even greater.

Sony Details Four Days: The Heavy Rain PS3 Online Experience

252w ago - SCEA Product Marketing Manager Jefferson Dong has shared details today on Four Days: The Heavy Rain PS3 online experience, as follows:

As many of you living on the West Coast of the United States know, it has been raining extremely hard during the last week.

We, here, in the marketing team at SCEA wanted to let you know that this is merely a coincidence and that there is no connection to the upcoming release of the interactive psychological thriller, [Register or Login to view links], exclusively for PlayStation 3.

While we did originally have two weeks of downpour planned as part of an ARG (alternate reality game) or viral marketing campaign for the release of Heavy Rain, we were prevented from doing so due to liability and logistical reasons (Legal teams hate it when you screw with the weather).

However, you can experience [Register or Login to view links], a live online mystery that plays out in real time across three weeks, drawing you into the mystery and lore of the Heavy Rain universe.

Between Tuesday and Friday every week there will be daily tasks for you to complete (leaving you the weekend to catch up if you fall behind). Each task will lead you to the next...

Modern Warfare 2 Co-op Dropped as it 'Ruined the Experience'

550°
267w ago - In a recent interview with VG247.com (linked above), it was revealed that the original build of Modern Warfare 2 had a co-op campaign mode.

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling briefly commented about it along with detailing a "substitute" for the co-op mode, Spec Ops mode.

To quote from the interview: "We did it early on; that's what Spec Ops started out as, as co-op through story," said Bowling when asked why Campaign co-op didn't make the final game.

"But it really broke the cinematic experience, took the immersion out of it, out of the story and the pacing and everything we'd spent so long crafting.

It just ruined the experience we were aiming for, so we took it out, kept the single-player for that one player intact and polished it."

PlayStation Home-esque Experience Coming to XBox Live?

300°
268w ago - Today Joystiq (linked above) received some interesting info from a reader, who claimed to have taken part in a survey run by Microsoft which featured avatars playing classic arcade games in a virtual arcade setting.

If that sounds familiar, you probably played PlayStation Home before.

To quote: If a consumer survey sent over to us by a tipster is to be believed, Microsoft is looking to bring a virtual Avatar arcade to the Xbox 360. Some of the potential names listed in the survey are "Game Room," "RetroCade," "Tower of ROM," and "Classics LIVE." Yeah, we're partial to "Tower of ROM" also.

If the proposed service sounds familiar, that's because it's nearly identical to PlayStation Home's arcade spaces - like Namco's virtual arcade - just replace the dead-eyed dopplegangers of Home with the scrunchable avatars of Xbox 360.

The second survey question sent to us asks, "Which of the following names would most compel you to purchase the product?" indicating that the "Tower of ROM" might not be a free space but could instead have a fee associated with it.

MAG PS3 Servers Experience Heavy Traffic, BETA May Reach 6GB

550°
271w ago - According to Examiner.com (linked above), an influx of new MAG BETA participants from both Qore subscribers and SCEE lottery winners led to a large increase in server load today.

A post from Shijima in the [Register or Login to view links] reveals this in detail along with hinting that the current 3GB download may total 6GB in size before all is finalized.

To quote: "Okay, I'm sorry to have to bring you some bad news. Due to circumstances beyond our control and some serious server issues, we were unable to send any codes to anyone today. I've been told that the earliest the first batch is likely to be sent out is Monday. I know many of you won't like this, but I thought it best to let you all know so that you don't have to keep checking your inboxes.

As it is, not even the existing users are having much luck getting into a game due to some critical download issues that the team are working to fix. As the servers are offline over the weekend, having to wait until next week is probably a blessing in disguise for you all. Hopefully by then all the problems will be fixed and the service will be running smoothly again.

I should also warn you that it's only become apparent today that the download is going to be pretty...
