Windows Vista SP2 BETA - Build 16489 Available for Download

299w ago - In parallel with the development of Windows 7, Microsoft is also taking Windows Vista to the next level. The Vista evolution is synonymous with the jump from SP1 to SP2, and Microsoft is already offering a taste of the second service pack for the operating system.

In mid-October, the Redmond company delivered the first pre-beta bits of Windows Vista Service Pack 2 to a selected pool of testers.

Subsequently, just as Mike Nash, Corporate Vice President, Windows Product Management announced on October 29, the pre-beta Vista SP2 testing program was extended to a small group of Technology Adoption Program customers.

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) Build 16497 is available for download here.

"Windows Vista SP2 adds Windows Search 4.0 for faster and improved relevancy in searches," Nash stated at the time. "Windows Vista SP2 contains the Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack supporting the most recent specification for Bluetooth Technology.

Sony Unaware of Any Slow PlayStation 3 PSN Download Speeds

306w ago - Gamers and journalists alike have complained about the slow download speeds on PSN. "I would say PSN is generally slower than other services, especially wireless," says Chris Morell, senior editor and PlayStation liaison at GamePro.

However, Sony's director of communications Patrick Seybold has responded by saying that he hasn't noticed this at all, and "I have both [a 360 and Wii] at home and downloads are comparable if not slightly quicker for PS3. Of course, that's just my experience."

To quote: Two weeks ago, it took a frustrating six hours to download WarGames from the PlayStation Store, all while my PC, Powerbook, 360, and Wii enjoyed fast, uninterrupted wireless transfers. This was slower than normal, but I typically suffer less-than-desirable wait times for PS3 demos and system updates as well. (I get 15 mbps down in my area courtesy of Comcast, by the way.)

"I would say PSN is generally slower than other services, especially wireless," says Chris Morell, senior editor and PlayStation liaison at GamePro. "I switched to wired, which is better, but it took me a long time to download the new Ratchet and Clank the other night, despite my ridiculous 32 mbps down."

EA: Download Red Alert for Free Starting This Sunday

308w ago - In celebration of the impending Red Alert 3 release and 13 year anniversary of the critically-acclaimed Command & Conquer franchise, Electronic Arts is giving away one the original games that started it all - the classic Red Alert - for free.

Starting this Sunday at 12 a.m. Pacific time, fans can download the 1996 original straight from EA's site.

Additionally, those who pre-order Red Alert 3 before October 27 will receive a free copy of the second installment in the series.
