Spry Fox Details Road Not Taken for PS4 and PlayStation Vita

50°
22w ago - Spry Fox Chief Creative Officer Daniel Cook detailed Road Not Taken for PS4 and PlayStation Vita for fans today.

To quote: This post is about Road Not Taken, Spry Fox's upcoming roguelike for PS4 & PS Vita. If this is your first time hearing about RNT, check out our trailers [Register or Login to view links]!

As we've mentioned in previous blog posts, Road Not Taken has procedurally-generated levels. That is, you get a completely new experience every time you venture into the forest.

When designing a game like [Register or Login to view links] or God of War, a designer must hand-select the placement of every corridor, every object, and every enemy in the game.

With Road Not Taken, we're not hand-selecting anything. We spend our time creating interesting objects and enemies, and then carefully defining the probabilities of when and where you will encounter them.

The process reminds me of Duchamp's painting 'Nude descending a Staircase, No. 2'. For thousands of years, humanity painted a single instant, captured in time. Duchamp, inspired by advances in motion pictures, decided to paint all the possible states of a woman walking down the stairs in a single painting.

To me, designing a roguelike is...

The Order on PS4: New PlayStation 4 Trailer, Story Details Revealed

100°
23w ago - Ready At Dawn Studios CEO and Creative Director Ru Weerasuriya shared a new PlayStation 4 trailer and revealed story details for The Order on PS4 today.

To quote: Over the past few months, we shared with you our vision of a Neo-Victorian London in The Order: 1886, an alternate version of human history filled with mystery and advances in technology that take center stage in an age-old war.

This conflict that started centuries ago pitted mankind against half-breeds in a battle for survival. This became the catalyst for the noblest warriors of their time to come together in an alliance, an Order that waged war and held the line for hundreds of years.

Through the centuries, their vigil has kept humanity safe and the war in a status quo while The Order's members remained hidden behind history and legend.

But everything changes with the advent of the Industrial Revolution. The tide of war shifts as the Knights finally bring the battle to the half-breeds with the help of new weaponry.

But with progress comes civil unrest and rebellion, by the very people they have sworn to protect. Oppressed by what they perceive to be a dictatorship, the Rebellion rises out of the streets of Whitechapel and quickly prove themselves a dangerous foe, taking up arms against the...

Baseball is Better: MLB 14 The Show PS4 Screens, Release Details

50°
24w ago - Sony Community Manager Ramone Russell of San Diego Studios shared new information today on MLB 14 The Show including PS4 screens and PlayStation 4 release details below.

To quote: We know anticipation is high, especially given we're making our next-gen debut this season, and this week we were able to share a glimpse of what we've been working on for the past 10 months. Here's a look at some of the things we've got planned for MLB 14 The Show.

I've been asked what our goals are this year, and the answer is simple. Everyone on our team takes great pride in chasing our goal of producing the perfect sports game. It's what has made The Show the highest rated sports franchise over the last 8 years.

We've already covered some of what's new this year in our previous post here on the PlayStation.Blog. To recap: there are more than 50 new features and improvements that will enhance, deepen, streamline, and better your overall experience.

Quick Counts will cut game completion times in half. A new UI, built from the ground up for PS4 (but carried over across all versions) has been optimized for maximum efficiency and responsiveness.

Here's Mike Napoli on PS4 (top) vs. PS3 (bottom). Note the revamped lighting engine, meticulously rendered facial hair, and rich stadium detail.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 PS3 Demo Out Today on PSN, Details

50°
24w ago - Konami Community Manager T.K. Shrodes shared details today on the new Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 PS3 demo that is out today on PSN below.

To quote: Want a taste of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2? Originally available only to owners of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate HD and the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Collection, the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 demo will be available for everyone today on PlayStation Store.

Download it today, and draw first blood against Dracula's many enemies in this demo, which highlights Gabriel at the height of his power.

Lash out with the Shadow Whip, a cruel remainder of Gabriel's once holy Combat Cross, or steal your enemies' very souls with the Void Sword. Employ my personal favorite, the Chaos Claws, to break down your foes' defenses and smash them into a very satisfying paste.

Dodge, jump and combo your way from Dracula's own throne room to an enormous assault against Dracula's castle, showing off differences in scale from the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and the many additions to the Mercury Engine that make this title bigger, better, and just like Gabriel's turn... Darker.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is available on PS3 in North America starting February 25th. Stay tuned for a special deal for...
