Pinnock: Wipeout HD Motion Control a Challenge but it Feels Right

100°
314w ago - Daimion Pinnock, the WipeOut HD producer, has revealed it was quite a challenge to get SIXAXIS motion control in Wipeout HD.

Pinnock revealed that it is possible to just throw motion control into games although they spent the time tweaking it to ensure it felt right. He added that continuous feedback was particularly important to ensure motion control was beneficial to the actual gameplay itself and not just there for the sake of it. To quote:

WP: Let's talk about the motion controls. WipeOut, from its very earliest inception, has always supported analog control, but WipeOut HD is the first in the series to actually support motion controls with the SixAxis. How hard was that to get it right?

DP: Well, it was a challenge. It certainly was a challenge to get it in there. The main thing when you're going to have the SixAxis controller in there. I mean obviously, you can go in and put it in there, but we spent time tweaking it, making sure it felt right. We got a lot of internal feedback from QA, from everyone that put their hands on WipeOut.

We actually listened to them, got their feedback in there, and we really wanted to make sure that the public didn't feel that we put it in there just for the sake of having SixAxis motion control in there, but that it felt like something...

Toriyama talks FFXIII Demo - opening prologue and greater control

50°
318w ago - Motomu Toriyama has shot off some details of the FFXII Demo that will be bundled next march with the Japanese version of Advent Children Complete.

IGN (linked above) has better translated the details and like the FFVII demo you will be able to play through the opening prologue and players will be able to control of more than Lightening only.

To quote: Describing the demo, Toriyama said, "Like the FFVII demo that was included with PlayStation's Tobal Nol.1, you'll be able to play from the opening through the prologue. We're making it so that players will understand about the world of the Cocoon and how the Lucys are handled."

Toriyama hinted that the demo could be of substantial length. While not giving a specific play time, he said, "We'd like to make it something with lots of volume." To this, he added with a laugh, "I think it will be longer than FFVIIAC."

As to what all that content will consist of, Toriyama wouldn't get too specific. He did confirm, however, that the realtime sequence that was shown in the DKS3713 trailer won't be included. That section of the game actually follows the demo, Toriyama explained, mirroring comments that were made by the development staff in a documentary film that aired at the event.

During the demo, players will be able...

Guitar Hero: World Tour's New Guitar Control Revealed, Priced!

50°
327w ago - In the batch of leaks going up on NeoGAF and elsewhere: Guitar Hero World Tour (aka GH IV) will feature new controls on the guitar neck, plus a raft of A-list artists including, curiously, the Doors.

"New touch-sensitive guitar Neck Slide opens up the entire guitar neck for unbound solos - shred how you want," says the leaked docs.

Word up to this point had promised an upgraded guitar but no details. The game will also roll out with drums with cymbals, and a mike, which we knew. The drums are wireless and will have quiet pads.

At this rate, GH and Rock Band enthusiasts will have a garage full of obsolete instruments, and this kit is likely to set you back $179.99. But that money also buys you tracks from Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, System of a Down, Ozzy Osbourne, Interpol, Muse "and dozens more".

The Doors – let's keep an eye on that one. Drummer John Densmore is notorious for refusing to license Doors tracks, memorably turning down $15 million from Cadillac and criticizing other band members' materialism.

The band's unanimous consent is required for any licensing deal, and Densmore has been the only holdout, with one exception: he did agree to allow "Riders on the...

It is claimed the PS3 might get the interactive XMB and you need i the Playstation Eye and you will be able to browse through your friends list, music, movies, games and more via your hand movements.

To quote: Well I might have some great news for PlayStation 3 owners, my friend's>friend's uncle at SCEJ gave me a insight of a new XMB which comes after the Playstation Home late 2008 (ear by ear)...
