BioShock PS3 Downloadable Content Detailed and Priced

50°
303w ago - 2K Games has outlined its plans for the announced downloadable content coming to BioShock for the PlayStation 3.

On November 20, fans of splicing can pay $9.99 for three self-contained Challenge Rooms. The new rooms also offer PlayStation Trophies for clever solutions to the problems they present. The description of the rooms straight from 2K Games follows:

A Shocking Turn of Events - A Little Sister is trapped atop a Ferris wheel in an undisclosed location in Rapture. Using only the tools and environment around them, players must use their wits to create electricity to power the Ferris wheel and bring the Little Sister to safety.

The I in Team - Using limited resources, and an even more limited arsenal, players must negotiate traps and find a way to defeat a Big Daddy using their wits instead of raw firepower.

Worlds of Hurt - Step up and take on the most grueling challenge offered in the world of Rapture. Players must battle through eight rooms of Big Daddies, Splicers and the worst that Rapture has to offer. Accumulate Adam, build an arsenal of Plasmids, Tonics and Weaponry, and fight through to rescue the Little Sister.

$10 is becoming a standard price for meaty downloadable content, but we'll have to see just how much substance there is...

BioShock Developer Details PlayStation 3 Improvements

50°
305w ago - 2K Marin programmer Jake Etgeton reveals that the PS3 version of BioShock will feature new interactive load screens and graphical enhancements due to the use of Blu-ray and the ability to install data on the PS3 hard drive.

To quote: "There are improvements, such as interactive load screens which takes advantage of the increased space on the Blu-ray disc," said Etgeton. "The downloadable Challenge Rooms also offer a slew of new graphical and gameplay content, albeit outside of the fictional universe."

When asked about the PS3 install and how it will affect the game, Etgeton explained, "BioShock PS3 uses a standard one-time 5 GB install. It only takes 10 minutes, and there's even a fancy movie accompanied by Bing Crosby's 'You're Getting to Be a Habit with Me' to help pass the time if you're not off making a tasty, preparatory sandwich."

"Installing to the PS3 hard drive allows us to 'stream' textures and audio faster than the Blu-ray drive can deliver," he justified.

For those of you who want to pick up the PS3 version of BioShock, look for it in stores on October 21.

2K Games: BioShock PS3 Patch Coming to Fix Texture Issues

100°
306w ago - Just over a week ago, we reported on the BioShock Demo's Texture issues.

Today, 2K Elizabeth (2K Community Manager) has reported that the 2K Development Team is working on a patch for BioShock on the PS3 which should fix all of the visual problems.

For now, she confirmed that two fixes are included relating to the Big Daddy Bouncer and Elite Bouncer Textures Appeared Pixelated and White Bars.

To quote: Hey guys,

I have good news from the dev team about a patch for BioShock PS3! They have been working on a patch to address the concerns some of you on the forum have talked about. As work is in progress I do not have a definite date for when this patch will be released as it needs to be tested and clear certification with Sony before it is scheduled and released. I do know this will not be until after the game's launch, and I will update you with details on that date as I receive them.

I'll be releasing the entire patch list when it's all finalized, but for now I'm sure you'll be happy to see that these two fixes are included.

2K Games: BioShock Demo Texture an Exception, Full Game Fine

200°
307w ago - Recently several gamers have been left confused and upset by textures in the BioShock demo for PS3 which looked relatively sub-par.

2K Elizabeth, a 2K Community Manager has commented on the matter by stating that there is an instance where the demo's texture doesn't look too good at all, but this is just an exception and the full game does look amazing on the PS3.

To quote: Hey guys,

First, I want to thank you for the acute attention to detail and the Spartan level of expectation our most devoted BioShock fans hold us to, and how excited you are and attentive to the BioShock PS3 demo. When we saw a post asking about issues found in the demo, we jumped on it immediately. And you know what, you're right.

The texture in the PS3 demo of the downed Big Daddy does not match our level of quality either. This slipped by. We admit it.

However, I want to assure you that this is an exception, and not a rule, and while I regret this oversight, we put a lot of love into making this game look amazing for the PS3 and I'm sure that when you play the rest of the demo you will agree that the textures are not all like this one instance.

As for the other issues and concerns, we are currently diligently working to replicate any bugs, and will report back to you with...
