251w ago - Recently it was reported that Sony patented software-based PS2 emulation technology. This got users excited who own 80GB, 40GB and 160GB PS3 consoles without backwards compatability.

Although the article speculated that the upcoming PS3 slim may utilize this technology, today a German Web site has supposedly gained comment from a Sony employee, to quote:

This brings us to the German Web site Demo News, which claims to have gained comment from a Sony employee stating that full backwards compatibility is coming to US PS3's as a firmware update in the "next few weeks."

If this rumor is true, it will make many newer PS3 console owners very happy indeed!

Video: Uncharted 2 PS3 Visuals Blows Away All Competition

257w ago - After watching the 5 min gameplay of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, I have been left speechless.

I hear this is a common symptom with most PS3 exclusives of late, but this has taken it too far, the game looks incredible, so incredible... nothing else on consoles matches it.

The detail in the character models, faces, environments, explosions, lighting and animations are absolutely fantastic, I have to give special recognition to just how crisp the textures of this game look, I think the secret to the uniquely crisp textures are the fact that they are hand-painted!

For those of you that haven't seen it, you need to watch this footage, it's stunning in every sense of the word, and if this is the level of visual fidelity we can come to expect from every level in the game, I can't wait to see gameplay of some snowy areas.

From loads of insider sources I'm in contact with, they are stating that Nathan Drakes character model alone contains more detail than in some other games environments. various shaders have been applied to his body, and an even more improved expression engine has been used to craft characters organic facial expressions with great care.

No other game comes close to the...

Throw Your Hard Drive Away, Google's Gdrive Arrives This Year

100°
274w ago - According to TGDaily, Google's Gdrive is set for a 2009 release. This new service is essentially an online storage where Google servers will be able to hold the entire contents of your hard drive.

But that's not all, the service will also allow you perform some cool tricks like booting the online drive to load the Google OS.

To quote: The service has the potential to eclipse even Gmail, Google's second best-known product after their google.com search engine.

That said, it's no wonder users have been ripe with anticipation for years - yes, that's how long the rumors have persisted. Gdrive is basically online storage where Google servers have enough capacity to hold the entire contents of your hard drive.

It will likely also come with enough brains to do cool tricks now with bigger things down the road - like booting your computer from online drive to load the Google operating system.

100°
274w ago - Microsoft is giving away Gold XBox 360 consoles to residents of Hong Kong. To be in with a chance of winning, they have to buy a new XBox 360 between now and February 15th.

After purchasing the system, gamers are expected to write a contest essay and explain why they love the XBox 360.

To quote: Gold, but not solid gold Xbox 360s. These consoles still play Resident Evil 5, but you can€t buy one on eBay yet. Microsoft is giving these away as prizes for a Lunar New Year promotion.

To get a chance at winning one you have to buy a brand new Xbox 360 with a 60GB hard drive or an Xbox 360 Elite between January 15 to February 15 . Sorry, Xbox 360 Arcade purchasers Microsoft only wants big spenders in this contest.

After that you need to write an essay and explain why you love your Xbox. Oh, and this is the most important part, you have to live in Hong Kong. It€s the only region I€ve seen Microsoft offer this contest in, which means whoever wins a gold Xbox 360 will have a real collector€s item in their hands.

Sony Giving Away Money in PlayStation Home

100°
275w ago - If you€re in one of the regions supported by Sony Computer Entertainment Asia you can get $10 HKD for free if you track down the money god avatar.

$10 HKD isn€t much, it€s like $1.30 US, but it€s interesting to see Sony run such a promotion. Sure, it€s not enough to buy a PlayStation Network game, but you can get a virtual item by finding the money god. Or you can save your money and hope Sony Computer Entertainment Asia runs more of these so you can get a free game.

No word if Sony is going to try this strategy in other regions of if this is only a Sony Computer Entertainment Asia strategy.

Terms and Conditions:

- You must be a Hong Kong member or Singapore member of PlaystationNetwork in order to participate in the event. Each eligable PSN account can only play one time.
