Unanounced Air Combat Game 'Stormbirds' Cancelled by THQ

298w ago - An unannounced air combat game titled "Stormbirds," in development by Juice Games, was recently cancelled by THQ, according to former Juice artist Greg Calvert.

Stormbirds was set for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC before THQ apparently got cold feet. As a result, the team of over 30 developers was laid off by Juiced owner THQ.

"The game was in the same genre as Ace Combat and HAWX," wrote Calvert in a recent blog post. "THQ deemed the project too high risk, [and] as a result the entire team were made redundant on the 1st of December 2008."

Juice Games was acquired by THQ in 2006. The developer is best known for the "Juiced" series of racing titles.

Rather than see the fruits of their labors go to waste, some renders (below) from the Stormbirds project have been released by both Calvert and Steven Kerswell of CG studio RealtimeUK, along with an intro cinematic which is available from the link at the top of the article.

Confirmed: No Red Bull Air Race on PlayStation Home This Year

50°
300w ago - Just before the weekend, TedTheDog has stated on the European PlayStation boards (linked above) that Red Bull's Air Race definitely won't appear in 2008.

To quote: Beta's are often difficult as everyone wants the new toy, whatever it may be, to work just as the vision portrays but as a beta things are being used in untried ways and things are bound to go wrong.

And the vision of Home is pretty exciting right? We know its a little bare right now and we've got some problems to solve, but they'll be solved and we can then move on to running it as the service we all want.

The reality is that we really are beta testing Home and we have to get these load related issues dealt with (and they can be dealt with.)

I'm very reluctant to give an ETA for the Red Bull Air Race as the very nature of what were doing here throws schedules sometimes (as you've seen) but it certainly will not be before the new year now. I know its irritating, but it really ought to be worth the wait, its really quite impressive and a lot of fun.

PRESS RELEASE: RECYCLED PLAYSTATIONS BECOME BRITISH DESIGNER CHAIRS

London-based Pli Design Ltd (http://www.plidesign.co.uk) is launching its latest eco-friendly product, a chair made from 100% recycled games consoles. The launch takes place on Wednesday September 10, 2008 in London, at the HQ of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

The British manufactured 'ReeeŽ chair' has a plastic seat and back made entirely from recycled PlayStationŽ2 computer games consoles*. Unlike most recycled plastics, which come from a variety of sources, the plastic in the Reee chair is entirely from a single source, making it the first of its kind in the country.

The Reee chair - which is available for the contract, education and domestic markets - was conceived at the annual Eden Project Suppliers conference in Cornwall, where the Pli team discussed the possibilities for reusing high-quality plastic from waste electronics products with other manufacturers, including Sony Computer Entertainment.

Each chair uses 2.4 kg of recycled plastic and the chair parts are designed to be disassembled at the end of their life and recycled again and again. The production of recycled plastic requires a fraction of the energy used for 'virgin' plastic that comes straight from...

Dress Snake as Altair in MGS4 the easy way!

318w ago - Courtesy of Kotaku, linked above: You finish Metal Gear Solid 4, you get access to a screen where you can enter passwords.

Indeed, we've shown you some of these before! These are just like those.

If you visit the extras menu, go to passwords and enter jmsotsynrn, you'll get the Type 17 pistol.

Nice enough, but entering aottrykmyn will get you the Snake-dressed-as-Altair costume that left the Internet scratching its head a few months back.

It even matches his moustache!
