Sony: We Won't Drop Blu-ray for the PlayStation 3 Console

350°
298w ago - In February, analyst Mike Hickey indicated a PlayStation 3 price drop would hit near the end of the month. Didn't happen. He also passed on speculation that Sony would drop the PS3's Blu-ray drive.

Wait. What? Drop the thing that makes the entirety of the PlayStation 3's physical game library playable? That's what he said. See?

"We are also hearing continued speculation that Sony is working on a non-Blu-ray PS3 console, which could enable them to make the aforementioned hardware price reduction," Hickey wrote in a note to investors last month.

Sony says there's no way that's going to happen.

"That would pretty much destroy the PS3's backbone, our games were built on Blu-ray," Sony marketing manager Kim Nguyen tells Business Insider. "Quote that: Blu-ray will always be part of PS3."

Glad we got that sorted out. Also, duh!

Is 2009 Really the Year of Sony's PlayStation 3 Console?

250°
298w ago - If you ask just about any ill-informed PlayStation fanboy on any forum what Sony has in store for them in 2009, they will almost certainly reply to you with a list of games that looks a little like this:

• God of War III
• Heavy Rain
• Uncharted 2
• MAG
• inFamous
• Killzone 2
• Gran Turismo 5
• Quantum Theory

Then they would go about spouting first-party studios they have not heard from in a while, claiming "Team ICO's unannounced project".

How many of these games do you expect to see the light of day in 2009? Let's take a look back over the years so far. In the past we have seen top-notch first-party exclusives such as LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2 being delayed over and over again and third party games such as Metal Gear Solid 4 receiving similar delays, it is clear that it isn't just Sony dropping the ball.

It is highly possible that many of these developers over-estimated their skills at programming, making a game from the ground up seemed on a system deemed by developers as 'difficult to program for'.

First, let's get these unannounced games out the way, if they are unannounced, the chances of them releasing any time within the next year are unlikely. It is still within possibility...

Sony's PlayStation 3: Both a Game Console And a Miracle Worker

400°
298w ago - The PS3 has been doing miraculous things. Wait, what? You thought that innocent looking black box sitting under televisions across the world was just a game console?

Most gamers take it for granted that Sony's console allows us to play great games, movies, music, and surf the Web. Sony has made it abundantly clear this generation that the PS3 is the most useful "gaming media hub" known to man.

However, the PS3 is making a real tangible difference to lives of many people and in that regard it's on a roll.

The PS3 has truly come a long way since its initial blueprints and continues to amaze fans with its growth in every passing year. The PS3 has to be one of the most "under appreciated" consoles in the media since the Dreamcast. Do they not see what the PS3 is doing right now?

Sony knew that they had the most powerful console this generation, but did they know the extent of its potential? The PS3 is over 10x more powerful than your average PC and this fact garnered the attention of scientists, who were looking for supercomputers to use for their "folding of a protein cell" studies.

Stanford University, located in California State, has linked PS3s around the world via the Internet to harness the collective computing power of cell processors to speed up...

Noby Noby Boy Update Coming to PS3 via PlayStation Network

50°
298w ago - Today Keita Takahashi of Namco Bandai Games has announced news of a Noby Noby Boy update hitting PS3 via PlayStation Network:

Last month, Girl reached the moon. I was filled with emotion when that happened because I was wondering if a lot of people were playing the game. And I am truly grateful for all those who have. Thank you all very much.

Some of our own staff was also touched more than they had expected. With that said, the next goal, Mars, is still far away. It would take all the current players a while to reach Mars, so more people have to join in on the fun.

There have been many reviews/criticisms since Noby Noby Boy released. I totally understand as this is such a unique game and I expected those reactions. I don't mean to make any excuses. That being said, I do get depressed from time to time as I want users to enjoy the game as much as possible. But at the same time, this is what I wanted to create.

In the hopes that more people can enjoy the game, we are currently working on an update.

A featured addition to the update is going to be offline multiplayer. Some may say, "Offline!?" But it'll still be fun. Please check it out.

Well, it's going to be quite a long journey to Mars. Please be patient. This is Takahashi.
