Sony Chart Reminds Gamers of the PlayStation 3's Offerings

100°
292w ago - An external SCEA PR rep has told Edge-Online why a chart (below) was released by Sony indicating that the PS3 was cheaper than Microsoft's XBox 360 and Nintendo's Wii console.

The rep noted that it was thought to be a good time to remind everyone of "our strong offerings".

To quote: An external SCEA PR rep From The agency Porter Novelli told us the company released the chart because they "thought it would be a good time just to remind everyone of our strong offerings," which automatically implies that they feel people have either forgotten about the PS3's inherent value or never seriously considered the PS3's value, due to the higher price tag.

It's highly likely that amidst this PS3 price-drop rumoring that Sony wanted to tell the core audience, "Hey, don't wait for a drop, it's a steal at $399, honest."

I'd argue that today PS3 is a fine value, on par with Xbox 360, particularly for gamers in 2009, when it appears that Sony's internal developers will really begin to bear fruit.

Nevertheless, I'm glad I'm not the one that has to figure out how to get that value message across to consumers.

Fallout 3 Patch Causing Saved Game Problems for PlayStation 3

50°
292w ago - Although the Fallout 3 1.10 patch fixes a larger number of bugs and glitches, reports have been coming into us from gamers (as well as the [Register or Login to view links]) that it's also introduced some new problems, most commonly on the PS3 console.

After applying the patch, some players' saved games have been reported to be missing items - including but not limited to keys for important locations, on random occasions. Furthermore, some gamers have noticed that the game has an increased chance of freezing after loading an area.

There also appears to be some problems with using old save files on the PS3 from before the patch on very rare occasions, In some rare instances, the old save files will not allow the player to save nor auto-save, because the start screen has the "Save" option darkened after the patch is applied, making it impossible to save with the old save files.

Thankfully, this only seem to occur with saved files before the patch, and infrequently. So far, there is no known fix other than deleting the patch from the "Game Data Utility" and starting the game without installing the patch.

We'll inform you if/when when a proper fix becomes available!

292w ago - If you're in one of the regions supported by Sony Computer Entertainment Asia you can get [Register or Login to view links] if you track down the money god avatar.

$10 HKD isn't much, it's like $1.30 US, but it's interesting to see Sony run such a promotion. Sure, it's not enough to buy a PlayStation Network game, but you can get a virtual item by finding the money god. Or you can save your money and hope Sony Computer Entertainment Asia runs more of these so you can get a free game.

No word if Sony is going to try this strategy in other regions of if this is only a Sony Computer Entertainment Asia strategy.

200°
293w ago - According to MTV, the box of Skate 2 for the PS3 indicates that the game requires 2182MB.

So if you're running low on HDD space for the PS3, then you may wish to consider clearing some room for this one!

To quote: A quick public service announcement: We're still in the era of PS3 games that require installations and/or major chunks of hard drive space.

The box for this month's "Skate 2" indicates that it requires 2182 MB. So free some hard drive space if, like me, you're running out of room.
