Video: X-Play Killzone 2 Review for the Sony PlayStation 3

50°
291w ago - Check out the awesome video below courtesy of G4TV's X-Play, who has given Killzone 2 a 5 out of 5 rating! To quote:

Some shooters try to hang a deep and meaningful story on their shootouts, and more often than not the plot twists end up either completely forgotten or way confusing. Not Killzone 2. This down the barrel look at life knows exactly why you're here. These Helghast have harried you for long enough.

It is time for them to be the home team. As ISA Sergeant Sevchenko, you will lead an invasion of the hazy Helghast home world, Helghan. After watching about ten seconds of an in-game news broadcast and an exciting dropship ride, the game grants you permission to fire, and off you go! Get the lead out! Why? Who cares!? They have red eyes! Do you need another reason?

The Killzone franchise has a checkered past. The first installment rode a wave of hype (not unlike the wave this game is riding) right into a wall of disappointment. Some hated the game's loose controls. Some hated the moronic AI. Some hated the glitches and slow-down that the game suffered from.

A good soundtrack and interesting ideas won't carry a game though, and the original Killzone not only didn't meet the unreasonable expectations...

Resident Evil 5 Demo for PlayStation 3 Live on PSN Today!

400°
291w ago - Thats right, the RE5 Demo is now available on the PlayStation store!!

Download size is 942mb. To quote Capcom's Shawn Baxter:

Hey everyone, I'm Shawn Baxter (Snow) from [Register or Login to view links]. Our amazing Resident Evil 5 Demo goes live today on PSN, so I thought I'd tease you a bit with some of the cool things to expect, whether you're an old fan or new to the series.

One of the first things I noticed is how good the game looks. It's hard to get by the beauty RE5 has to offer. Better still, you get to play through two beautiful stages in the demo. Aside from the sweet graphics, there's plenty more that the demo has to offer.

For those new to the series, the controls can seem a bit different than you may expect. The RE brand has always forced you to take your time, stop while shooting, and conserve your ammo. It really helps add a sense of tension a normal shooter can't offer. But to help those who are new to the world of RE, we have new control types that ease things up a bit. M

y favorite is Type A, which is probably best if you're a fan of the previous games, especially RE4. Next on my list is Type D, which I find myself loving more and more. Type D is best if you're new to the game, and it offers something the...

Rumor: Tekken 6 to Have Exclusive DLC for PlayStation 3?

200°
291w ago - Word around the net is the the PS3 is going to have exclusive DLC for the upcoming Namco Bandai game, Tekken 6.

XBox 360 currently has been making a big impact in multiplatform games by purchasing exclusive DLC rights for the Microsoft brand. Much love to their fan base.

Games like GTA 4, Fallout 3 are great examples of this, making their games the better purchase over PS3; finally, Sony seems like they want in on these exclusive DLC rights, starting with the Mirrors Edge content with EA and Sony's exclusivity rights and now Sony looking foward to try and have the advantage with Tekken 6.

Tekken 6 has been a long running franchise born on the Sony platform Playstation, so it seem likely this can have some truth to it. Another reason why this might be true is because Tekken 6 will be the first arcade machine to use the notoriously difficult-to-program-for Cell created by Sony that has currently made its home on the PS3.

This isn't too surprising, considering that Namco always based their arcade units on Sony's home console hardware. That's the reason why Tekken arcade to home conversions were generally better than those of Virtua Fighter.

Maybe the truth to this is that Sony allowed Namco to borrow their cell processor with the exception that Namco would...

New Gaming PCs, Next-gen XBox and PlayStation 4 All Doomed?

100°
291w ago - Rahul Sood - onetime CPC columnist, founder of VoodooPC and now big cheese at HP - has been busy recently, presiding over lots of positive coverage of his most recent project, HP's small-and-sleek gaming PC, the [Register or Login to view links], while also finding time to write a series of lengthy and doom-laden blog posts.

Well, their titles were doom-laden, at any rate: both the gaming PC and games consoles as we know them, are doomed. Both posts are confidently argued, and the reasoning behind both is similar: for Rahul, it's a question of costs vs benefits.

On the gaming PC side of things, the number of people willing to pay thousands and thousands of dollars/pounds for ludicrously powerful gaming machines is getting ever smaller, tempted into causing their own extinction by ever more expensive, power-hungry multi-GPU systems.

On the console side of things, Rahul reasons, it's not the customer but the companies - well, Microsoft and Sony - that can't afford to create any more machines along the lines of the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Their business model is to sell the console itself at a loss, and make a profit on the add-ons, games and licensing agreements.

I certainly think he's right about the PS3; all the sales data points to it...
