Uncharted 2: Among Thieves to Max Out the PlayStation 3's SPUs

100°
287w ago - The original Uncharted only used 30% of the PlayStation 3 console's SPUs, but the team behind the upcoming sequel are confident that their new title will push the SPUs of the PS3 all the way.

Apparently this will allow for better details across the board, to quote:

There was a point where Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was hands down the best looking PS3 game. With lush environments and such vivd and charasmatic animations, it blew away all competitors. Though Uncharted still looks drop dead gorgeous, it has since been eclipsed by other titles like MGS4 and the upcomming PS3 exclusives Killzone 2 and Heavy Rain.

That isn't stopping Naughty Dog from trying to reclaim it's title with Uncharted 2, though. In a [Register or Login to view links], the developer's co-president Christophe Balestra spoke about how they would be utilizing the PS3 to accomplish this.

"Uncharted used 30 per cent of the PS3's SPUs, and this time we're maxing it out" Balestra explained. This will allow for better environmental interactions, as well as more detailed and believable body and facial animations.

To date, no game has maxed the PS3's SPUs, with even the graphical powerhouse Killzone 2 only using 60% of them.

Secret Message Found on Back of Killzone 2 for PlayStation 3 Box?

100°
287w ago - Dutch site PS3Life is reporting that the back of the Killzone 2 for PlayStation box appears to contain a secret message.

As images of it make their way to the Internet, it appears to be a fairly standard and ordinary design except for something striking on the back.

Pictured below you will see circled some curious text on the left side (click to enlarge the image). If you look closely you can see a few letters, but a sentence or a word we can not make out.

Whether it's just part of the box's artwork design or a hidden message remains to be seen. Feel free to share your thoughts below!

288w ago - I'm currently working on a PS3-Wii Media Portal. I've been working on it for about 3 months now for approximately 2-3 hours a day.

At the moment I am integrating a flash MP3 Player for it. I will put it on a Googlecode page and add a download link when the beta comes out.. it will be ready for a beta in about a week if I can continue steady work on it.

The project is from Team PSI and I'm the main Dev working on it.. I used to have a Web site, but I closed it so am sharing the news here.

Hope to have it ready for beta release soon, below are some preview pics!

100°
288w ago - SpartanFX from VGChartz (linked above) reports that the OPM February issue has posted the first review of the stellar PS3 title Killzone 2. The game has got the perfect score as expected. The reviewer said:

"The buddies alongside you in each battle have been expertly tuned to provide just enough cover and support to actively get your back on occasions, while never making it feel like they could acchieve every objective alone."

"...the believability and consistency are hallmarks of the Killzone 2 expereince. None of the circumstances, weapons you find, locations you visit, or frankly any of the details in the world feel arbitrary. The world is consistently realized in its unappealing flavor."

"...filled with moments that can handily be described as inspiring awe"

- bots in offline multiplayer "perform pretty well"

"Without a doubt Killzone fans, action, and shooter fans of any stripe will isntantly tag this sequel as a powerful contender for teh best game of 2009"
