Rumor: EB Leaks PlayStation 3 Price Drop Date of March 22, 2009

500°
292w ago - Rumor has it the PS3 is set for a price drop on March 22nd, at least according to an EB employee who reportedly let this one slip.

To quote: Last night one of community members was in an EB Games store and an employee mentioned a PS3 price drop occurring Sunday March 22nd just in advance of the Game Developer's Conference (GDC).

He went on to say that Sony will be issuing a press release on the Saturday before the drop and that EB was already prepared for the upcoming price-drop.

The current "rumor" is that the PlayStation 3 80GB console will retail for USD $300. That would be a $99 price reduction in the console, bringing it closer to reach for many gamers. However, be prepared for Sony to refuse to comment or straight out say this is untrue, it wouldn't be the first time they've pulled that stunt.

It's in Sony's best interest to hide the price drop from gamers because we'll halt purchasing of the PS3 until The Price drop occurs.

Sony Faces Heat from Game Publishers to Cut PlayStation 3 Price

250°
292w ago - Sony Corp. is under pressure from video game publishers to cut the price of the PlayStation 3 console, or risk seeing more development funds shift to Nintendo Co.'s Wii.

To quote: PS3 sales in the next 12 months are likely to total 14 million, compared with 28 million Wiis and 9.7 million Xbox 360s, according to the Daiwa Institute of Research, a Tokyo-based researcher and consultant.

Price cuts have an immediate impact.

Sony reduced the PS3 price from $499.99 in October 2007 and sales more than doubled in the next month. In September, Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft released its lowest-priced Xbox 360, at $199.99. The company almost doubled Sony's U.S. shipments from October to January after trailing PS3 in the prior three months, NPD data show.

"Anytime a console manufacturer reduces the price, software publishers benefit," Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer of Ubisoft Entertainment SA, Europe's largest video-game maker, said in an e-mail.

Game makers now focus development in two directions: one for the top-selling Wii and the other for Xbox 360, PS3 and personal computers.

Titles for Microsoft and Sony are typically...

Greatest PlayStation, Saturn And Nintendo 64 Graphics of All Time

350°
292w ago - Like a fine wine, game consoles mature with age. The first wave of releases, that initially looked so visually impressive, are soon eclipsed by ever-more-sophisticated looking games, as developers gain a greater understanding of the hardware.

That doesn't mean, however, that it's the last games released for a system that are most memorable. In fact, it can often be the games in that first wave that have the greatest impact, as they hold the promise of a new era.

This feature is focused exclusively on graphics. We're going to take a stroll through every console designed for 3D graphics and hand out four awards to games that pushed the envelope. They are:

Most Memorable Graphical Jump: This is the game with visuals so good it changed the way you viewed the console. Suddenly, the true power of the system was revealed, and previous expectations were left in the dust.

Technical Excellence: This is the game that best capitalised on the hardware from a visual standpoint. This is a developer who knows the system inside out eking every last ounce of performance and eye candy.

Serving A Creative Vision: This game used visuals to serve a highly creative end or in conjunction with an expansive concept.

Worst Visuals: This is the game...
