Videos: Shocking New inFamous PlayStation 3 Trailers Available

100°
291w ago - inFamous is due out in around three months and we still haven't seen that much of it yet. These videos seek to change that by showing around eleven minutes of gameplay montage footage.

To quote: It's looking good, if a bit samey. The platforming sections look like they're a lot of fun, though the combat seems like it could get a bit repetitive.

We guess that'll depend on the full scope of Cole's powers. We suspect that the game's writing and story will make or break the experience.

Comparison: PlayStation Network vs. XBox Live Online Services

400°
291w ago - Here is a 5-round match between PSN and XBL. For each round, the contenders can get up to five points. The five rounds will be features, online play, ease of use, content, and bang for the buck.

Round 1. It's All About the Features

I think we all know which will get the higher score in this round. The PlayStation Network has improved rapidly since its debut. At first, compared to XBL, psn was like a little kid against a big adult.

Since then, psn grew to match a lot of the features that XBL had. I know many of you disagree with us when we say this, but Home is a nice thing to have on PSN.

The reason is that it is constantly evolving, and will soon catch up to what Sony promised from Home and more. Just like PSN... PSN was not what was promised during release, but caught up to those promises. Back then, I would have given psn a 2, but now PSN deserves a lot better. XBL hands down has more features, but PSN has just enough to live with. XBL - 5 PSN - 4.5 (.5 because of Home)

Round 2. Online Play

Both PSM and XBL offer amazing online play. There really is no difference in the online play of these consoles. One of the major benefit of PSN is that the games that use its dedicated servers are huge.

Rant: Microsoft Should Stop Talking About the PlayStation 3

400°
292w ago - We are well aware that when companies are in direct competition with one another (at least, in terms of one specific division), it's perfectly normal to expect each side to take potshots at the other.

In fact, it's even expected. But we've noticed a trend in the past year or so, and we can't decide if it's due to fear on Microsoft's part, or just an unprofessional approach.

Xbox 360 product management director Aaron Greenberg had a lot to say [Register or Login to view links], and too much of it revolved around the competition. We have to wonder if Gamasutra specifically asked him about Sony and the PlayStation 3, or if he just decided to lash out on his own.

We're not going to quibble when it comes to statistics; he's certainly not making them up, and it's true that the 360 outperformed the PS3 in February. However, he also clearly hints at the "fact" that Killzone 2 didn't have any effect; that it didn't prove to be the system seller everyone thought it would be. ...well, there's a serious problem with that train of thought.

Guerilla's gem didn't launch until February 27; the next-to-the-last day of the month, if you're not calendar-proficient. Now, we don't know of any gamers who ran out to buy a PS3 on Valentine's Day in...

The Top Five PlayStation 3 Features Added via Firmware Updates

100°
292w ago - The PlayStation 3 launched in late 2006. Since then, Sony has added plenty of new features via constant firmware updates. Here are the top five added firmware update features on the PlayStation 3.

5. Background Downloading (PlayStation 3 Firmware Version 1.60)

Downloading content from the Playstation Store was a major pain in the early days. You have to stay on the same screen for long periods of time (in some cases, hours). Not to mention that you can't resume from the same point if you disconnected.

Playstation 3 Firmware Version 1.60 fixes that cumbersome problem by enabling background downloading, which let gamers perform other functions while in the process of downloading. In addition, you can resume a download anytime and automatically shut down the Playstation 3 once the download is complete.

4. BD-LIVE (PlayStation 3 Firmware 2.20)

For the longest time, the Playstation 3 was the best Blu-ray player on the market. The main reason for its success was the ability to upgrade to a higher profile. Therefore, the Playstation 3 was able to stay ahead of the curve by upgrading Blu-ray Profile to 1.1 and then 2.0 (BD-LIVE). It isn't just Blu-ray movies either; firmware updates also added Windows Media, DIVX and Flash media support for the Playstation 3.
