Sony: PlayStation 3 is Hard to Develop for on Purpose

350°
290w ago - Earlier this week, Shaun Himmerick, executive producer for "Wheelman" and employee at Midway, told the hosts of the "[Register or Login to view links]" podcast that developing for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 couldn't be any different.

"The politically incorrect answer is that the PS3 is a huge pain in the ass," Himmerick told the hosts.

"Anyone making a game, if you're going to make it for both, just lead on the PS3 because if it works on the PS3, it'll work on 360," he said. "We had to play catch-up on the PS3 because of the memory constraints and how it renders; how it processes is just different. And it's harder on the PS3," Himmerick continued.

A slew of well-known developers have spoken out against Sony's high-power console.

Valve's Gabe Newell said in 2007 -long before Sony's decline started- that the PlayStation 3 is a "waste of everyone's time." He went on to tell Edge Magazine that "investing in the Cell... gives you no long-term benefits. There's nothing there that you're going to apply to anything else. You're not going to gain anything except a hatred of the architecture they've created. I don't think it's a good solution."

SOCOM And Siren Game Spaces Planned for PlayStation Home

50°
290w ago - Recently European PlayStation Home community manager TedTheDog [Register or Login to view links] some changes that would soon take effect in Sony's online game world. To quote:

Most of them focused on improving some already integrated features - for instance, he mentioned many PS3 developers are working on patches to their respective titles to allow them to be launched within Home, and that they're "investigating" methods of allowing players to listen to their own music in-game.

He also explained that a few high profile Game Spaces are nearing completion, and should see the light of day in the coming weeks.

Among the mentioned game-themed rooms are lobbies modeled after SOCOM: Confrontation, Siren: Blood Curse (which is currently accessible in Japan), and Resident Evil 5.

More importantly, he mentioned that a "slightly updated" Home Square could launch as early as March 5. We don't know what this update will entail, but we hope it'll provide further opportunities for us to carry out our more nefarious PlayStation Home enterprises.

Update on Killzone 2 Multiplayer Online Issues for PlayStation 3

200°
290w ago - Seb Downie, the Producer over at Guerilla Games made an official update on some of Killzone 2's issues.

He talks about the removal of bots from online multiplayer rooms, statistics, the official site and issues in general.

Find the full response below:

Bots

"This is a temporary solution to the complaints regarding the cheaters. We will come up with a more suitable and elegant solution which will require a little time to be implemented, tested and deployed, so we ask you to be patient and remain calm. The patch you will have downloaded should have disabled the bots from the game creation screen and set them to zero in your custom game.

As for the people who have already 'padded' their stats, we'll have to talk to the online mods and get their take on it. No decisions made yet."

Stats Wipe

"We will not be wiping the stats completely. The game servers have been up for a number of weeks now and more than 220000 stats have been posted. I think we would be in quite a bit of trouble if we wiped those now"

Kz.com

"www.Killzone.com has been battered quite a bit the past 2 days. More than we anticipated that it would and we're busy getting it back on its feet. It will be...

Five Games That Need to Come to Sony's PlayStation Portable

300°
290w ago - With the announcement of some stellar titles arriving on the PSP this year, it would appear that owners of the device finally have a good reason to charge it up again and book a long train journey.

With the idea of creating a cutesy LBP level during rush hour headaches-ville and ripping through Motorstorm's snowy, mountainous terrain while sitting on the toilet firmly processed in our brains, it seems only fitting that we discuss which games should also be brought to the device.

1. Dead Space

Having just been revealed as an upcoming release for the Nintendo Wii, Dead Space is clearly a franchise that EA are taking very seriously. Its blend of horror and action was well received when it was originally released for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2008. The sound was also remarkably well implemented, helping it to be one of the most talked about games of the year.

Its eerie music, snarling monsters lurking around every corner and random spaceship noise had me on the edge of my seat. It would be very interesting to see how the game's intensity could be scaled down for the handheld, while it would represent a superb opportunity to push the PSP's sound capabilities to the limit.

2. Bioshock

As far as I'm aware, FPS games on the PSP haven't...

Irem Reveals Details of 'Irem Plaza' PlayStation Home Lounge

200°
290w ago - Irem became the latest publisher to join up with Sony's Home virtual world as it offered today a first look at its very own virtual lounge.

Similar to Bandai Namco's lounge, the Irem space is meant to be a general area for the publisher rather than for a particular game.

To quote: Named "Irem Plaza" ("Irem Hiroba" in Japanese), this lounge has been designed in image of a Japanese festival. Visitors will find the types of sights and activities one might find at a Japanese-style carnival, including booths and areas for food, shooting, fireworks, and Bon Odori.

The lounge will also offer a variety of items, including traditional "yutaka" festival clothing for player avatars and R-9 figures from R-Type as furniture items.

The lounge promises four areas from the start:

Observation Deck
Allows visitors to look out onto the beach and see fireworks and the setting sun

Message Board
Details lounge events and information about new stalls

Night Stalls
Players can play mini games and purchase items here

Yagura (Watch Tower)
This is the central area of the lounge where players will gather

The lounge will also eventually be updated with a special game lounge...
