50°
288w ago - Rock Band 2 is finally out now for Europe.. welcome to October, 2008 when North America got it.

At least you don't have to wait for all the downloadable content, that's been kept nicely up to date thanks to its compatibility with Rock Band 1.

In the US two new games are seeing release and, as usual, Japan is playing catch up. Here's the full release list:

US Games
• MLB Front Office Manager
• Afro Samurai

EU Games
• Rock Band 2

Asian Games
• Skate 2
• Tomb Raider Underworld

Don't forget PS3 games are region free, so feel free to go ahead and import any game from this list. The only caveat is that any DLC will need to be purchased from the respective PSN Store, which could be a problem.

Release dates are constantly subject to change, so be sure to check with your local retailer.

Why Sony's PlayStation 3 Console Can't Play PS2 Games Yet

550°
288w ago - As a follow-up to an [Register or Login to view links] from a few weeks ago, Sony may have you believing that the company cut out PS2 backwards compatibility in order to save costs.

However, the real reason is actually more strategic than anything else. According to recent [Register or Login to view links], all PS3s will most likely be able to play PS2 games in the near future.

The PS2 is Sony Computer Entertainment's crowing achievement after the PSOne. Both consoles combined have sold close to 260 million units world wide. It does make it seem a bit silly when you see console fanboys bickering over the anthill sized 20 some million units for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The PS2 and PSOne has a combined library of over 8,000 games (PAL, NTSC) to date, yet the latest version of the PS3 cannot play any of the PS2 games. I was fortunate enough to get my 60GB PS3 during launch, which is considered by many to be the ultimate version. I consider it to be the MVP (Most Valued Player) of gaming consoles due to the fact I could fence it for a good bit of cash on Ebay.

The 80GB which came out after the 60GB, had a new piece of software...

Metal Gear Online 'Bomb Mission' Coming via PlayStation Network

100°
288w ago - Metal Gear Online will getting a brand new (free) mode, dubbed 'Bomb Mission' soon.

To quote: Bomb Mission will be available to all MGO players on January 27th. In this new mode, two teams go head-to-head.

The offensive team will attempt to detonate a bomb at a targeted location, protecting the bomb until it detonates.

The defending team must protect its stronghold and prevent bombs from exploding by using a special coolant.

We're not sure how many people still play MGO, but it's great to see Konami offer brand new content at a price we all can approve of.

Sony's PlayStation 3 Generates the Largest Sales for UbiSoft

50°
288w ago - Earlier last month, Take-Two, publishers of Bioshock and Grand Theft Auto, [Register or Login to view links] that the PS3 had been their biggest source of income, with 35% of their revenue coming from the platform.

It seems this may becoming trend, as UbiSoft is [Register or Login to view links] a similar story. So far for the fiscal year of 2008, 21% of the publisher's sales have come from the PS3.

Of the three home consoles, that is the largest percent, with Microsoft's XBox 360 trailing at 20% and the Wii at 15%. This is quite a mix up from the 2007 fiscal year, where the 360 actually had the highest amount of sales out of all platforms at 25%.

This may, in part, be to UbiSoft's PS3 exclusive Haze. Though the title was meet poorly critically, it performed reasonably commercially. However, UbiSoft also published Naruto: Broken Bond, a 360 exclusive, that has sold nearly 400,000 copies to date.

UbiSoft is expecting to meet their financial goals for the fiscal year of 2008, with Tom Clancy's...
