Savage Moon Coming to PlayStation 3 via PSN Tomorrow

287w ago - Today [Register or Login to view links] Producer Ana Kronschnabl shared some background on Savage Moon, which is due for release on the PlayStation Network store tomorrow as follows:

For the last few months we've been hard at work on our take on the Tower Defense genre. Although here in the UK we spell it 'defence' ;-).

If you've not played any tower defence games, you're missing out. They are a great off-shoot of real-time strategy games where the player can only build static defences and the enemy is the one on the move. Our art director, Stuart, introduced us to a few of the games on the net and needless to say, work around the office dropped to zero as we got hooked.

At the time we had been given a couple of PS3 development kits by Sony to play around with and we thought, "Wow, we'd love to do our own take on this." We threw around a few ideas then went up to see Sony and surprisingly enough, it turned out that they had been thinking exactly the same thing.

Thus Savage Moon, our first game for the PS3, was born. It is due for release on the PlayStation Network store this week for $9.99...we're very excited.

First off we wanted to give the game a bit of a story. All the tower...

Rumor: WipEout Pulse May be Heading to the PlayStation 2

50°
287w ago - Eurogamer (linked above) claims to have knowledge of a PS2 version of WipEout Pulse in development, but an official Sony statement on the as-yet unannounced title muddles the actual status of the futuristic racer.

To quote: Sony declined to comment directly on WipEout Pulse for PS2, but told Eurogamer in a statement: "There are over 9.5m PS2s in the UK and we will continue to support this large userbase with software on an ongoing basis.

"Of course, we need to make a business decision that there will be sufficient demand for a particular product, but we see franchises such as SingStar and Buzz still selling very well - for example SingStar Abba which launched in December proved very successful.

"With regards to other titles we will judge each on an individual basis and make decisions accordingly."

GOTSent v0.24 BETA 5b Changelog:

- Fix for users who use nero, and complex path names who get an mp4 with only audio.
- A new mp4 muxer was used to prevent mp4box issues.
- In oddly named files and very large files, mp4box messes up. I hope this will fix the issues. the only drawback at the moment is that it doesn't set the aspect ratio correct yet. This is being worked on.
Furthermore, bitrate fixes, and target size selection is active (DVD 4.5, DVD 9 and BR 25).
- A fix was also made for drag and drop functionality, where it would only process the last file, but now does all dragged mkv files.

Regards!

Improving Gran Turismo 5's Visuals for the PlayStation 3

50°
288w ago - Proper Graphics' 3D model of a Koenigsegg CCX to Gran Turismo 5's specifications caused quite a stir. Not only was it discussed across the web, the accompanying [Register or Login to view links] was the seventh most popular on YouTube last week!

Yury Rybakov of the Belarus-based design studio dropped by our [Register or Login to view links] to help explain exactly why their model looked so much better than what we've seen in games so far.

Mr. Rybakov conceeds the Koenigsegg wasn't processed in real-time like it would be in a game, but it also makes significantly better use of the polygons that it is composed of. He supports his argument by highlighting several imperfections in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue's vehicle models that have resulted in incorrect and misaligned surface reflections that most of us have probably missed!

To their credit, Polyphony Digital have the monumental task of crafting hundreds of these models, and compromises have no doubt been made. Regardless, Yury's technical insight shows us laymen how some additional tweaking can go a long way, raising the bar higher for the next iteration of the Gran Turismo series.

LittleBigPlanet Patch 1.08 is Now Live for Sony's PlayStation 3

50°
288w ago - Update: The LittleBigPlanet Patch 1.08 patch, initially though to be 'Edam' by Media Molecule, was [Register or Login to view links] by LittleBigPlanet developer Sam_Protagonist to only contain update content as follows:

"The 1.08 update contains content only. The Edam update is still going through the testing process and we'll have more information about its release date once it's completed testing."

To quote: This patch has been confirmed as a content-only patch, installing the latest costume textures (required for players to see other people online who are using the latest DLC costumes).

We can confirm that this patch is 13Mb and we notice that it has re-arranged selected content in the LittleBigStore. This screenshot shows how the Kratos' costume now appears for players who've already downloaded it (the God of War pack icon showing the three costumes no longer appears to players who've not already downloaded it). This makes sense as the Kratos costume and God of War pack are out on Thursday.

We've heard reports of some players still having problems with LBP, so we're still not 100% sure that the patch is Edam - we'll report back when we hear confirmation.
