EVGA Releases GTX 275 FTW Edition, Faster Than GTX 280 FTW

50°
294w ago - EVGA released its fresh new Geforce GTX 275 FTW Edition 896-P3-1173-AR graphics card, which marks a significant achievement in the competitive GTX 275 lineup from various manufacturers for its superior clock speeds and its relatively competitive pricing.

Not surprisingly, the EVGA Geforce GTX 275 For The Win is officially the fastest GTX 275 card to date, with clock speeds of a 713MHz core, 1512MHz shaders, and 896MB of 512-bit GDDR3 memory at 2520MHz.

Unfortunately, this model does not come with double memory chips for a 1792MB configuration, but the frequencies of its GPU do bring up an interesting observation. When compared with the Geforce GTX 280 FTW Edition that launched in June 2008 at 670/1458/2430, the new GTX 275 FTW with the lower model number actually has faster overall clock speeds.

In terms of theoretical performance at factory overclocked memory speeds, the 55nm GTX 275 FTW gives roughly 141.12GB/s of memory bandwidth on a 448-bit interface, while the 65nm GTX 280 FTW gives 155.52GB/s on a 512-bit interface. It is also important to note that the 55nm GTX 285 FTW Edition expectedly still tops both models with roughly 177.4GB/s on a 512-bit interface.

Overall, it seems apparent that memory performance of remains linearly consistent throughout Nvidia's GTX 200-series...

EA Releases DRM De-Authorization Tool for SecuROM Titles

200°
295w ago - As many know, some EA PC games only allow the owner to install the game on five machines.

Back in December, EA released a Spore De-Authorization Tool which allowed users to switch these five authorizations around between machines.

Now they've unveiled a new tool that allows you to do this for over a dozen games with SecuROM. You can access the authorization management tool [Register or Login to view links].

The tool only works with SecuROM games released in May 2008 or later. The list of games eligible for de-authorization is available through that link and includes Mass Effect, Mercenaries 2, and Spore. You can also download a program that scans your computer for eligible games.

It seems unlikely that anyone will ever need to install the same game on more than five different computers, even across their entire lifetime. Still, nice to know you can, eh?

Sony Aims for Simultaneous Digital PSP Game Releases in 2009

400°
296w ago - The head of PlayStation US marketing, John Koller, has revealed that Sony is planning on simultaneous digital versions of its PSP titles released alongside their UMD equivalents.

To quote: The head of PlayStation marketing at Sony America, John Koller, has stated that Sony would ideally like to see simultaneous digital versions of its PSP titles released alongside their retail UMD counterparts.

"In the back half of this year, we should see a good rise in the amount of content that comes to PSN for the PSP," he told Wired. "We're aware that most of the content thus far has been for PS3, and that's based on the usage model and who has been demanding that content.

"But as we continue, and there's more of a desire from the consumer for PSP content, we're going to really increase the size and amount of content that's available."
