Voice Chat Temporarily Disabled in PlayStation Home 1.04

50°
279w ago - PlayStation Home will be patched today to version 1.04 in a "first step" effort towards resolving various connection issues users have been experiencing.

While this is a good thing, the PlayStation.Blog also notes one side effect of this new patch: voice chat will be temporarily disabled.

The removal of voice chat (for now) should alleviate the crushing bandwidth load on Sony's servers since the official "open beta" launch of the service.

The blog recommends "to make use of the Wireless Keypad for PLAYSTATION 3 or any USB or Bluetooth-enabled keyboard for text chat and also the "phone friend" features to communicate within PlayStation Home."

Take-Two Reports PlayStation 3 Biggest Revenue Generator

50°
279w ago - Sales were up at Take-Two Interactive, thanks to sales of games like Grand Theft Auto IV and Midnight Club: Los Angeles, but the publisher saw losses also increase to the tune of $15 million.

The company pointed to two other titles, NBA 2K9 and Carnival Games as leaders for the quarter, laying out its fiscal 2009 game plan.

That includes two batches of Grand Theft Auto IV downloadable episodes due by October 31, 2009, one of which has already been announced and dated. The company boasted that more than 3 million games in the Carnival Games series have been shipped.

Take-Two list the PlayStation 3 as its biggest revenue generator on the publishing side, with 35% of the quarterly take. That beats out the Xbox 360, which brought in 28% of its publishing dollars, and the Wii, at 11%.

For the entire fiscal year, Take-Two brought in $1.5375 billion in revenue, with $97.1 million in net revenue. That's much better than the company's 2007, when it raked in $981.8 million, resulting in a loss of over $138 million.

Sony: Interest in PlayStation Home has Been Off of the Charts

200°
279w ago - PlayStation Home's director Jack Buser has told MSNBC that the interest in PlayStation Home has simply been off the charts.

However, Buser himself failed to give out any specific numbers but added the whole point of Home is to help people form deep relationships.

To quote: "The interest in PlayStation Home has been off the charts," Jack Buser, Sony's director of Home, told me earlier this week, though he declined to reveal any specific numbers.

A visit to Home during this, its first week open to the public, certainly reveals a place bustling with visitors - even into the wee hours of the morning.

What Buser will say is that, "Home was born out of this Need for a social network for gamers. The idea was that we could provide this extremely realistic, immersive environment that would allow people to get to know one another.

When you meet someone in Home, and you hang out with them... you really start to feel like you know this person. And that was our hope - to enable people to form deep relationships.
