Final Fantasy XIV: GamesCom Interview for PlayStation 3

250°
283w ago - Sony's Social Media Senior Specialist Chris Morell has shared a Final Fantasy XIV PlayStation 3 GamesCom interview tonight on the PlayStation Blog.

To quote: Many of you have been asking about Final Fantasy XIV since its announcement a few months back at E3.

During my Gamescom Cologne stay, Square Enix invited me to a small roundtable discussion (along with some new friends at [Register or Login to view links]) with Final Fantasy XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka and Sage Sundi. Our 30 minutes flew by, but we definitely got to some good stuff, which you can read in its entirely below.

PlayStation Blog: You recently talked at E3 about how the game closely relates to Final Fantasy XI. How have the monsters and races changed from FF XI to XIV.

Hiromichi Tanaka: Because we're using a new graphic engine, the graphics are really different from FFXI and you can see more details on both monsters and races. Regarding the races, to encourage people to shift smoothly from FFXI, you will see very similar types of classes. But if you actually make your own character, you'll be able to select your own colour of hair, skin, eye color, shape of your face, etc. There will be a wide range of variety to customize.

PSB: After E3, you mentioned...

PlayStation 3 Slim Teardown - PS3 Slim Motherboard First Look!

650°
283w ago - We have waited a while to see the redesigned Slim PS3, and its hardware - to be honest, its not that "slim" compared to previous versions. Thanks to joinmeindeath417 of TechPowerUp (linked above), we get to take a look!

Compared to the later motherboard revisions of the PS3 Motherboard, it is somewhat in line - the "additions" come with a smaller cooler, smaller PSU, and slimmer BD-Rom drive, as well as a slightly redesigned motherboard (not too much however).

But, compared to the CECHA it's a big difference, but compared to the later model motherboards (CECHL and on), it is mostly the same.

The only differences are more integrated components, less power supply "bits" spread about the board, but nevertheless - mostly the same.

Sony to Launch Huge European PlayStation 3 Marketing Campaign

50°
283w ago - Sony is set to launch an £82m pan-European marketing campaign for the PlayStation 3, firing the first advertising salvo against rivals Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox as consumers start to think about presents for Christmas 2009.

The TV element of the campaign, which has been developed by the TBWA agency, marks a departure from Sony's traditional tactic of often esoteric and dark commercials.

To quote: The new set of TV ads, the first of which launch in the UK tonight, focus on the simpler aim of describing the range of services available on the PS3. These include online gaming and Blu-ray movies, downloading TV and film content and being able to watch the BBC iPlayer.

"Two years after launch, PlayStation 3 is realising its full potential," said Alan Duncan, UK marketing director. "The console is moving beyond gaming and gaming is moving beyond discs."
