Xi Developers to Release New PlayStation Home Space Thursday

50°
280w ago - As reported last week, the Xi development team (among other projects) has been working on some new PlayStation Home spaces.

Awesom-home (linked above) reports on a recent Twitter [Register or Login to view links] by CEO Patrick O'Luanaigh that confirms that the first space will be available this coming Thursday.

To quote: "Off on holiday this week, but our next Home space should be out on Thursday... should be fun "

Will this be a sequel to the Xi experience, or something completely new? We'll find out soon enough...

Rumor: PS3 Firmware 3.0 and New PlayStation Network Coming?

400°
280w ago - According to PlayStation Insider (linked above), a PS3 Firmware 3.0 announcement and details of the new PlayStation Network are planned for Sony's 3-hour press event at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany next week.

To quote: "Our source told us that Sony is planning on announcing firmware 3.0 at the conference, while being very careful to point out that Sony might not release firmware 3.0 on that day, but that they will announce it and detail it's features, possibly in video form.

Our source also said it coincides with the release of the new PlayStation Network, however our source didn't go into any detail as to what this new PSN is supposed to feature. Sony did send out some e-mails recently hinting at a new PSN launching on the 18th, so that lends some credibility to these rumors.

We speculate that it could have some premium features. There was talk a while back about a possible premium service where users pay one flat rate to access unlimited downloads (online gaming and all of it's features would still be free though).

If the price were right, that's something that many could find very appealing. Hopefully this firmware 3.0 will also come with some of our most sought after...

PlayStation Network and Gamebattles Auto Reporting Arrives

50°
280w ago - SCEA's Marketing Alliances Manager Bret Blount has introduced PlayStation Network and [Register or Login to view links] Auto Reporting today, as follows:

Hi everyone! My group has been working hard with partners at MLG's Gamebattles to give competitive PlayStation gamers a better tournament experience.

Last month it was secure registration and authentication between PSN and Gamebattles. Today we're happy to officially introduce [Register or Login to view links] – a function of sharing game data between the PlayStation Network and Gamebattles tournament and ladder systems.

It works like this: When you finish a match which was scheduled on select Gamebattles PlayStation arenas, Gamebattles will fetch the score and statistics for both teams (or players).

For the player, this means it will be much easier and faster to play PS3 matches on Gamebattles and there will be fewer disputes based on user input errors. It will also allow PlayStation to highlight PS3 Gamebattles activity in real-time, both on the interweb and within connected PlayStation communities.

This feature has been enabled first for the [Register or Login to view links]
