250°
278w ago - Today 1UP (linked above) has published a report on the new PSP, indicating that the new, UMD-less hardware will ship this Fall in Japan and North America, with Sony bringing 100 PSP titles to the PlayStation Store.

Below is also also has an artists' rendition of what the new PSP Go! may look like.

To quote: Sources confirm the next PSP will gain an internal flash drive, ditch UMD, and nix the rumored second analog nub.

Rumors of a major PSP hardware redesign have repeatedly bubbled to the surface over the last several months - some claiming the removal of the system's UMD disc drive, and others pointing to a second analog stick and sliding screen.

According to sources directly involved with the new system, we have learned that Sony will quell those rumors by unveiling their revamped PSP at this year's E3 conference in June.

Many have speculated that the update would be called either the PSP 2 or PSP-4000, but our sources claim Sony will forgo a numerical moniker in favor of a subtitle.

We've heard various rumored code names for the project (including PSP Slide, PSP Flip, and PSP Go!), but given that Sony has introduced the Go! brand of add-ons...

PlayStation 3 is the Best Selling Gaming Console in Japan

200°
278w ago - Sony must be pretty pleased with its performance on its home market and thinking about how it could replicate it all over the world.

The PlayStation 3 has become the best selling gaming platform in Japan, probably because of the release of the Blu-ray version of the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children movie, which is packed with a demo version of the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII.

The PlayStation 3 has seen an increase of 42,000 units in sales, to reach 62,527, a number normally reserved for the Nintendo DS or for the PlayStation Portable. The Advent Children Blu-ray movie sold more than 270,000 units in its first week on shelves, which is extremely impressive compared with the best sold videogame of the week, which only moved 142,000 units.

The Nintendo DS is in second place, selling 44,725 units as the phasing out of the DS Lite, which is being replaced by the DSi, continues. The PlayStation Portable saw a dip in sales of less than 1,000 units, reaching just over 40,000 to stay in third place.

Worryingly for Nintendo, the Wii is also continuing its descending trend, with the home console only selling around 13,000 units, which is about 2,000 down from last week. It's now in fourth place, just ahead of the Xbox 360, which sold 8,652 units in one week. There are over 8 million Wiis...

Sony: Xi is Growing in PlayStation Home for PS3 Users!

50°
279w ago - Yesterday we reported on some PlayStation Home Alpha Zone 2 Images that were leaked, and today some official details are available from PlayStation Home Online Community Specialist Locust_Star, as follows:

Xi - the world's first console-based ARG, exclusive to PlayStation Home - just got bigger. The eagerly-awaited second Alpha Zone has opened up today, and there's plenty of fun stuff awaiting you. Can you escape the Fish Tanks of Good & Evil...?

There are a few numbered screens on the walls, promising more games and puzzles to come. The yin-yang symbol on the floor suggests there's a "light'n'dark, good'n'evil" theme to this place. But is everything as black and white as it seems? We're guessing not.

Given that this game has already included a giant jigsaw puzzle on billboards across Europe, a shiatsu massage game, flying cows, and a pair of classic text adventures, we're not quite sure what to expect next.

If you want to find out for yourself, fire up PlayStation Home and head for the Xi logo tagged on the wall in Central Plaza.

PlayStation Home Alpha Zone 2 Images Leaked!

200°
279w ago - It appears that another PlayStation Home user has once again managed find a way into the next, currently unavailable, Alpha Zone... and has provided the pics to prove it!

Apparently, one user managed to get in via a glitch, which prompted him to invite a pal of his who snapped these pics.

No word on exactly when Alpha Zone 2 will go live, but based on the last unintended entry of Alpha Zone 1 it can't be far away.

Three of the images are below, with the rest available linked above. Enjoy!
