Touchscreen VAIOs for Fall, PlayStation Network Support Coming

50°
279w ago - According ot a recent [Register or Login to view links] with Mike Abary, the company's senior vice-president, they have some new Sony VAIO laptops in the works.

These new notebooks will be ready for market as early as this fall and the plan is to equip them with touchscreen displays.

It's unclear whether they will take on the full convertible tablet PC configuration or if they will just be regular laptops with touchscreens, but you'll be tapping on that display in a few short months.

To quote: Perhaps even more interesting is that Sony plans on integrating the PlayStation Network into the Sony VAIO line.

Using the PSN, gamers are able to download a variety of gaming and entertainment content on the PS3 and PSP, so it's natural to extend this service to the PC market as well.

Abary says the initial focus for the VAIO PSN will be on movies and TV shows, but casual games may also find their way in there as well. Integration with Sony e-book reader devices may also be in the works.

Hustle Kings - The King of Pool Games for PlayStation 3

50°
279w ago - Today the Technology Director for VooFoo Studios Mark Williams has introduced Hustle Kings for PSN and PS3.

To quote: We really wanted to make sure Hustle Kings was something special right from the start, and the response from the unveiling at E3 has exceeded all of our initial expectations.

Everyone who has seen and played Hustle Kings so far has been incredibly impressed, and one of the things that many people have commented on is how brilliantly the AI plays.

We have such a comprehensive selection of online and multiplayer game modes in Hustle Kings, I was keen to ensure that our single player career campaign was just as challenging and enjoyable.

I initially sat down and played a lot of other pool and snooker games, and it really struck me as to how tiresome and predictable the AI generally was. I found myself wanting to skip past the shots played by my computer controlled opponent as they just weren't fun to watch. Hustle Kings needed something different, I thought, we needed to make our AI both challenging and entertaining.

Pool, and snooker probably even more so, are not games simply about potting balls. When lining up to pot a ball, you ideally want to leave the cue ball in a position that makes your next shot easier. Conversely, if you're...

Comic-Con: Castle Crashers - First Look for PlayStation 3

250°
279w ago - Today we get an early look at what happens when The Behemoth brings its colorful medieval brawler to the PlayStation 3.

To quote: Castle Crashers has been one of the bright lights on Xbox Live Arcade since it was released last August. The stylized side-scrolling brawler offered a winning mix of solid action, quirky charm, and four-player co-op play.

Unfortunately, PlayStation 3 owners haven't been able to get in on the fun--until now. The Behemoth is taking the wraps off of Castle Crashers for the PlayStation 3 at Comic-Con today, and showing off the first playable version of the upcoming downloadable title. We paid the California-based developer a visit for a first look.

For those of you who aren't already familiar with the game, Castle Crashers follows four knights as they head out to rescue their respective special ladies who've been princess-napped (a common problem in games).

The road to rescue sends the knights up against hordes of enemies but, with teamwork, a little help from their animal friends, a variety of different weapons, magic, and some leveling up, a happy ending is guaranteed. The game takes a light action-RPG approach to the head busting by letting you earn experience and level different stats on your knight, such as strength, defense, agility, and magic.
