PlayStation Home Celebrates April Fool's Day 2009

100°
278w ago - If you log into PlayStation Home and enter the Central Plaza, you'll be greeted with the cult hit that everyone loves to hate along with the promise of some "interesting" costumes.

Home Community Managers Locust_Star and CydoniaX had commented last week about bringing "The Chain Swing" back to PlayStation Home for April Fool's day.

Well, they delivered, making every single song in the Listen@Home play list "The Chain Swing".

Along with that comes posters advertising hamster costumes for Home users. So far, we've yet to see anything in the Threadz store as this may only be for April Fool's day and may have no chance of seeing the light of day.

In the meantime, we'll keep our eyes peeled if these suits become available and provide you with some pics of the event as well as the song that is currently driving Home users absolutely crazy.

Speculation: Is Sony's PS Cloud Patent for the PlayStation 4?

250°
278w ago - Sony has [Register or Login to view links] the 'PS Cloud' with the US Patent and Trademark Office, following the announcement of a number of new 'cloud gaming' services such as OnLive and Playcast Media at this year's Games Developers Conference.

To quote: The patent has lead to speculation that Sony Computer Entertainment may well be looking to 'cloud gaming' - where the processing power of a home console is replaced by that of a remote server outside of the gamer's home - as a strategic move forward for its PlayStation division.

The future of PlayStation?

Or, put in more straightforward terms, is PS Cloud the PlayStation 4? Is the 'next' PlayStation going to resemble a server-based system that allows gamers to play and save games to a user account via a range of devices such as their PlayStation 3, their PC or even their TV set-top box?

Sony filed the patent for 'PS Cloud' on 24 March, describing PS Cloud as a provider of "entertainment services, namely, providing an online videogame that users may access through the Internet".

TechRadar spoke with a SCEE rep this morning who declined to comment on the story. Let the speculation commence...

Confirmed: PlayStation 2 Will Be Available for Under $100

250°
278w ago - Today Sony's Hardware Marketing Director John Koller has officially confirmed what the rest of us knew previously.

To quote: For the first time ever, PlayStation 2 will be offered at a price point under $100 (that's $99.99 MSRP, to be exact), starting April 1!

Why is this so significant? Well most importantly, this new price means that more people than ever will be able to join in on the fun that so many of you PlayStation 2 owners have been enjoying for years, which means new families will become part of the platform's record-breaking install base.

With this new price, we intend to introduce a new generation of consumers - some of whom weren't even alive when the system was first introduced in 2000 - to the immense entertainment value offered by PlayStation 2.

In the gaming industry, the typical lifecycle for a console is around five years, but because we build each of our platforms for a large and diverse consumer base, we design our platforms differently. With the original PlayStation and now PlayStation 2, we've proven that consumers can rely on our platforms for their gaming and entertainment needs for at least a decade.

This speaks to the technology...
