Sony Officially Launches the PlayStation 2 in Brazil Today

650°
266w ago - Hard to believe after Sony's PlayStation 2 console just turned nine years old it would finally hit Brazil, eh?

That is exactly what Sony did today, according to Kotaku (linked above), the PS2 has officially launched in Brazil.

To quote: "It's priced at R$799, which works out to be around USD$465. So, yes, it's expensive to buy video games in Brazil.

Our man Pedro tells us that with a nine year-old console only just launching, there obviously isn't an official PS3 presence, though he says Sony do sell some older PS3 games. For R$199 (USD$115).

Ever wanted to know why piracy was rife in South America, those prices might get you in the right direction."

266w ago - Today Mike Kebby from the SCEE PlayStation Store Team has revealed this week's European PSN lineup, as follows:

For PS3 users you can get hold of Critter Crunch (trial and unlock) and Invincible Tiger, as well as the demo for Smash Cars, there are two packs available for Dragon Age: Origins (that's my weekend gone then) and a host of other content too.

Oh, did I mention a certain Snake makes an appearance this week too...we finally have the PSone classic Metal Gear Solid available!

Also, I think you PSP owners will be feeling some love this week with titles available such as LittleBigPlanet, Assassin's Creed Bloodlines, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, The Warriors and plenty more. There are also two further minis on the store this week, Echoes and Pinball Dreams; for the full list of this week's content have a scroll down.

There will also be a couple of titles made available this coming Tuesday (24th of November)... I was going to be mean and keep you waiting but I wouldn't do that to you all. Therefore on Tuesday you'll be able to get hold of Gravity Crash (both the full game and a trial & unlock) and for LittleBigPlanet an Assasssin's Creed costume will be available too.

Leave comments as usual, but please keep in mind that I don't work on...

Voting Starts Today for PlayStation's 17 VGA Nominees

50°
266w ago - Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has announced today that PlayStation voting for the 2009 Video Game Awards has commenced.

To quote: As the saying goes, "It's an honor just to be nominated." If that's the case, then we here at PlayStation are pretty well honored; The [Register or Login to view links] nominees have just been announced, and Sony Computer Entertainment is up for 17 awards, more than any other publisher!

UNCHARTED 2 leads all games with a record eight nominations, including GAME OF THE YEAR. See below for the full list of SCE titles and what award they're up for.

But going back to that saying - being honored is nice, but winning is better. Fortunately, the decision isn't left up to a shadowy cabal of Illuminati; for the first time ever, gamers from around the world get to vote for the victors between now and Saturday, December 12th.

Hat in hand, we kindly ask you to vote for your favorite PlayStation games on [Register or Login to view links].

In honor of our record number of VGA nominations, we're currently planning a viewing party near the LA studios where the VGAs will be broadcast live to the world.

We might even be able to get some...

Video: Special Thanksgiving Event in PlayStation Home and More

50°
266w ago - PlayStation Home Online Community Specialist Locust_Star has shared news today of a special Thanksgiving Event in PlayStation Home and an Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Fortune Hunter Edition contest.

To quote: This Thanksgiving, you'll want to spend every spare moment in the ever-evolving world of PlayStation Home.

Starting this week, a new mini-game will appear in Central Plaza, occupying the space generally reserved for Saucer Pop. This Thanksgiving-themed game will only be live for a limited time and will prove to be one of the most addictive, action-packed, and ridiculously fun activities going on in PlayStation Home.

The premise is simple: in celebration of the impending Turkey Day, users will approach the giant stone turkey in Central Plaza and, of course, pledge their allegiance to the almighty Meleagris Gallopavo by stating "Gobble gobble" and/or other assorted turkey-isms.

If your homage pleases your turkey overlord, you will be given a chance to chase a bunch of wily turkeys around Central Plaza (word to the wise: these turkeys are quite cunning and as such get progressively more difficult to catch as the game goes on, so you'd better bring appropriate footwear).

If you can manage to catch them all, you will unlock some truly hilarious rewards...
