Rumor: New Microsoft Ad Deal is Why Hulu Blocked PlayStation 3?

400°
270w ago - As reported a few days ago, since last weekend Hulu started blocking PlayStation 3 owners from accessing content.

Speculation is now underway whether it's due to Hulu's recent [Register or Login to view links] change, or if a new partnership with Microsoft is behind the dreaded "This Video is Not Available on Your Platform" messages PS3 owners are currently seeing.

To quote: A more interesting theory is that Microsoft paid off Hulu to block the PS3. Rumors of Hulu coming to the Xbox 360 have been circulating ever since Netflix 'Watch Now' arrived on the console.

If in fact Microsoft was in negotiations with Hulu to offer the service through their hardware, it isn't hard to imagine one condition of the deal (sweetened with a big sack of shiny gold coins) being that Playstation 3 owners be blocked. (But then, see above re: nervous network execs.)

No matter what the truth is, once again the consumer loses out. Is it too much to ask for transparency when changes like this are made? Wouldn't it be refreshing if Hulu made clear why it is suddenly cutting off some users of its service?

Sony: Motion Control for PlayStation Home Will Happen in Future

200°
270w ago - Sony's PlayStation Home platform group director Peter Edward has told SPOnG (linked above) that PS3 Motion Controller support for Home is likely, though not in development yet.

To quote: Peter Edward, director of Sony's PlayStation Home platform group, has told SPOnG that motion controller support for Home is likely, though not set in stone just yet.

Asked whether we'll see a use for the wand popping up in Home, Edward told us at the GameHorizon conference in Gateshead that "I'm sure that at some point in the future, it's something that will happen".

Explaining what the circumstances would have to be, Edward said, "That's something that I guess there would have to be a case that instigates that development. If one of our internal teams or a third party or whoever, had an amazing way that that could be implemented within Home... and there was sufficient impetus behind it, then we would have to work together on that.

Droplitz for PlayStation 3 Drops in to PSN

50°
270w ago - Today Blitz Arcade Project Director Steve Stopps has announced that Droplitz (which just recently got Droplitz PS3 Trophies) for PlayStation 3 is now available on PSN.

To quote: I'm really excited as we've just released our new puzzler Droplitz on PlayStation Network. Why so excited?

Well, partly because this is an original Blitz game idea. Blitz is one of the biggest independent game studios in the UK with more than 230 of us working together. And here's the really cool thing: anyone with a game idea that's good enough has the chance to get it made.

Droplitz is one of those games. It was the brainchild of a Blitz staffer James Parker and from the very first prototype it had everyone hooked. From the first time I saw it I could always imagine people from all over the world playing Droplitz.

Droplitz may not push any technological boundaries, but it's a blast to play - and totally addictive. You can pick it up to kill a few spare minutes or you can dig in for a long, relaxing session. It's got a magical, hypnotic quality that captivates and sucks you into the game play.

I've lost track of the amount of times we've been testing the game and before long gathered a small band of spectators...

Video: PlayStation Eye Chat: Shatter for PSN

200°
270w ago - Sony's Social Media Senior Specialist Chris Morell shared a PlayStation Eye Chat: Shatter for PSN video interview this weekend.

To quote: The kind folks at developer Sidhe agreed to participate in the PSB's first-ever video interview using the PlayStation Eye. And considering the company resides down in New Zealand, it's just about the only way to get them talking in-person.

Shatter is like Arkanoid on steroids...and we mean that in the most positive way. Here, Managing Director Mario Wynands talks about the game's slick graphics, power-ups and unique push/pull gameplay that makes this PSN game the real deal.

And what do you think of the PS3 Video Chat format via the Eye? Drop a comment and let us know... it could be a great way to conduct interviews with folks from across the globe.
