Voting Starts Today for PlayStation's 17 VGA Nominees

50°
265w ago - Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has announced today that PlayStation voting for the 2009 Video Game Awards has commenced.

To quote: As the saying goes, "It's an honor just to be nominated." If that's the case, then we here at PlayStation are pretty well honored; The [Register or Login to view links] nominees have just been announced, and Sony Computer Entertainment is up for 17 awards, more than any other publisher!

UNCHARTED 2 leads all games with a record eight nominations, including GAME OF THE YEAR. See below for the full list of SCE titles and what award they're up for.

But going back to that saying - being honored is nice, but winning is better. Fortunately, the decision isn't left up to a shadowy cabal of Illuminati; for the first time ever, gamers from around the world get to vote for the victors between now and Saturday, December 12th.

Hat in hand, we kindly ask you to vote for your favorite PlayStation games on [Register or Login to view links].

In honor of our record number of VGA nominations, we're currently planning a viewing party near the LA studios where the VGAs will be broadcast live to the world.

We might even be able to get some...

Video: Special Thanksgiving Event in PlayStation Home and More

265w ago - PlayStation Home Online Community Specialist Locust_Star has shared news today of a special Thanksgiving Event in PlayStation Home and an Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Fortune Hunter Edition contest.

To quote: This Thanksgiving, you'll want to spend every spare moment in the ever-evolving world of PlayStation Home.

Starting this week, a new mini-game will appear in Central Plaza, occupying the space generally reserved for Saucer Pop. This Thanksgiving-themed game will only be live for a limited time and will prove to be one of the most addictive, action-packed, and ridiculously fun activities going on in PlayStation Home.

The premise is simple: in celebration of the impending Turkey Day, users will approach the giant stone turkey in Central Plaza and, of course, pledge their allegiance to the almighty Meleagris Gallopavo by stating "Gobble gobble" and/or other assorted turkey-isms.

If your homage pleases your turkey overlord, you will be given a chance to chase a bunch of wily turkeys around Central Plaza (word to the wise: these turkeys are quite cunning and as such get progressively more difficult to catch as the game goes on, so you'd better bring appropriate footwear).

If you can manage to catch them all, you will unlock some truly hilarious rewards...

266w ago - Today PlayStation Network Operations Director Eric Lempel shared a video preview of the upcoming PS3 Firmware v3.10 update.

To quote: Hi everyone, here's an early peek at PlayStation 3 (PS3) firmware update (v3.10). The latest update incorporates Facebook into the PS3 experience.

By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity.

This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3's built-in web browser.

This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.

Additional highlights from update 3.10 include:

• The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.
• The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback...

300°
266w ago - This weekend Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has shared a video on the PlayStation Blog from a recent PlayStation Eye Chat covering Assassin's Creed II for PS3, as follows:

With Assassin's Creed II just days from hitting stores, there's still quite a few unanswered questions about the game (some of which you sent us via [Register or Login to view links]). Earlier this week, I spoke with Ubisoft's Lead Game Designer Patrick Plourde, from his home in Montreal via PlayStation Eye.

Even if you're not interested in hearing new details about Assassin's Creed II, including Ezio's Villa, customization, new features not present in the original, and PSP interoperability, you'll want to stick around to find out your task for the Live By The Creed mission.

Hint: it's near the end of the video.
