261w ago - While the publishing fate of WET for PlayStation 3 (and Xbox 360) remains in limbo, developer A2M from Montreal is still proceeding with their hot gun-totting action game WET.
The game tells the story of Rubi, an acrobatic, sword-wielding gun-for-hire who agrees to help a wealthy man find and bring back his wayward son. Soon enough all hell breaks loose and the tables are turned, as the man who hired her isn't who he appeared to be. Now Rubi's on the run, needing to find the man who left her for dead and leaving a massive body count in her wake.
A2M Senior Artistic Technical Director, David Lightbown, presented an exclusive 8 minute video of WET gameplay at MIGS 2008 and NextGen Player was given special permission to record the clip.
Note: The video below contains content that is mature (violence). Viewer discretion is advised.
After watching the video I think you'll agree with me that Activision may have made a poor choice dropping this game. This game looks hot.
261w ago - The PlayStation 3 can probably be considered one of the most customizable consoles on the market. With the ability to upgrade you HDD, use external USB devices, Bluetooth peripherals, install open source operating systems (Linux/Unix) and freely customize your own XMB theme, the PS3 gives users a freedom of choice that was never previously established in console gaming until this generation.
Not to say that it's really "open" in the sense where programmers, like myself, don't really have the ability to access any hardware acceleration in the RSX because of restrictions by a hypervisor (software systems that run directly on the PS3 as a hardware control and guest operating system monitor) in the available Linux/Unix flavors; this limits any 3D operations that can be done on the PS3 whilst running Linux.
But gamers don't really need to worry about crap like that. That's reserved more for the bewildered geeks that get a stiffy trying to comprehend the internal workings of any system - let alone the PS3.
But what if Sony took off the shackles currently limiting user control of the PS3? What if Sony decided to give users the ability to fully customize and control their interactivity and interface?
To finally change that sonata chime at startup to something more you (not...

261w ago - Speaking in IGN's latest Play Beyond podcast, Jeff Haynes revealed that even during the heaviest loads, Killzone 2 utilizes roughly only 60 per cent of the PlayStation 3 SPU's.
"It's incredible to see huge levels and see the deferred rendering and note that on all the SPU's, even on the heaviest load were coming up to about 60%," Haynes said.
"They weren't coming close to maxing out. They had about 40% of space before they started tripping or saw slow down on some of the processes."
Furthermore, Haynes noted that the preview codes recently distributed to various media outlets were of an alpha build of the title, and have since been polished up. Visiting Guerilla Games in Amsterdam, Haynes was shown an updated version of the game, mid to late beta, noting that elements such as lighting, cut scenes, glitches, load times, have all been optimized.
Killzone 2 is due out exclusively on PlayStation 3 on February 27, 2009.
