Video: Doom PSP Homebrew Game Running on PS Vita via HBL

1300°
138w ago - It wasn't long ago that we saw a Sega emulator running on PlayStation Vita, and now homebrew developer wololo has shared a video of the Doom PSP homebrew game running on PS Vita though the Half Byte Loader ([Register or Login to view links]).

To quote: A year and a half ago when I got Doom for PSP to run on the PSP Go, website hackaday noticed it and said “[being able to run Doom is] a prerequisite for any cracked device”. Some people try to run Linux on their hardware at all cost, I prefer Doom.

Today I was able to tweak HBL a bit on the PS Vita to get Doom to run on it. Will I get hackaday’s attention this time too? That’s, hands down, the best fps available on the vita so far, check the video below!

We are aware that this hack will be easily patched by Sony, but we still plan to publicly release it some time soon after the US/EU release of the Vita (we still have to port HBL to the EU/US versions of the game but that shouldn’t have any difficulty).

I also know that some devs are already working on solutions to make it “easier” for people who would want to stay on a low firmware....

Liverpool Studios on WipEout 2048's PS Vita Zombie Apocalypse

200°
139w ago - Liverpool Studios Game Director Stuart Tilley and Lead Designer Karl Jones are here with details on WipEout 2048's Zombie Apocalypse for PlayStation Vita below.

To quote: The new WipEout game is our biggest and most adventurous ever, with loads of awesome new stuff for you to get your hands on come February 22nd.

But almost every game has at least one cool feature that sadly finds its way to the cutting room floor, and WipEout 2048 is no exception L. Earlier this year we prototyped a new (hidden) game mode called ZOMBIE.

Now, this is WipEout, so our zombies were never going to be the sluggish, lumbering, flesh-eaters you're familiar with. These are 1000mph steel and carbon fibre machines of menacing evil, and they want you dead...

The rules of ZOMBIE were simple enough - survive the horror for as long as possible by avoiding or taking out the Zombie ships. You start in darkness, alone on the track. Then you hear them in the distance, the digital scream of their engines filling you with dread.

They start to show up on your Zombie radar, a handful at first in hot pursuit and full of ominous darkness. Then they're on you, ramming you, destroying themselves if need be, but they're taking you with them.

You can pick up Cannons and the...

PS Vita Hacker SKFU Confirms PlayStation Vita PKG AES Key Changed

1300°
140w ago - Following up on the PS Vita 1.50 Firmware announcement comes news this weekend from PlayStation Vita hacker SKFU who has confirmed the PS Vita PKG AES Key has changed.

To quote from his blog: I just got my tried to unpack the [Register or Login to view links] for PS VITA and sadly I have to say that the AES key for PKG encryption and decryption changed.

The PKG's I used for my testings were pretty old and the key update was expected. Nevertheless it's a bit disappointing but a new nice challange

The PS3 can decrypt the new packages on firmware 4.00 which contains the new PS VITA PKG AES key for the PS3 <--> PS VITA content exchange feature. This means we can decrypt and get the content of the PS VITA PKG files via a 4.00 PS3. Sadly there's no solution to re-encrypt it again, yet.

Let the games begin! (again...)

141w ago - Producer Matt Prior has shared some video footage today on FIFA Soccer for PlayStation Vita below.

To quote: Coming this February, EA SPORTS [Register or Login to view links] on PS Vita will be the first true next generation sports experience right in the palm of your hand.

With console gameplay and HD graphics, FIFA Soccer delivers the largest feature set ever created by EA SPORTS for a handheld device.

The same physics-based, data driven technology that powers [Register or Login to view links] gameplay on PlayStation 3 drives FIFA Soccer on the Vita across eight different game modes, including authentic 11 versus 11, Be A Pro, Tournament Mode with over 50 real-world competitions, a full in-depth Career Mode, and head-to-head online.

The game definitely looks and plays like the award-winning FIFA console game.

So the game definitely delivers the authenticity and quality that the FIFA franchise is known for. But the cool stuff comes in the innovations that the development team up in Vancouver has cooked up to utilize front and back multitouch screens to create an intelligent and unique gameplay experience.

These Touch Screen features are optional......

Video: Uncharted: Golden Abyss - Intu-Aim Feature on PS Vita

141w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has shared some new video footage today of the Intu-Aim feature in Uncharted: Golden Abyss on PS Vita below.

To quote: The Sony Bend Studios team working on Uncharted: Golden Abyss rolled into town touting something in that last category - the Vita-specific Intu-Aim feature.

This "aiming modifier" allows gamers to combine the six-axis gyro features of the Vita to fine tune the shots you line up with the right analog stick for greater precision.

In this exclusive new video, producer Darren Yager shows Drake's Intu-Aim aided gunning efficiency in action.

Also of note: Intu-aim is an optional feature; the team is committed to allowing you to play how you want to play.

Having tried it out, I found that you'll probably end up using it without even realizing you're doing it.
