Microsoft Confirms XBox Live Bans, Anti-piracy Efforts to Continue

100°
297w ago - Yesterday we reported news of Microsoft starting a new wave of XBox Live bans on modded XBox 360 consoles.

Today, Microsoft's Major "Larry Hyrb" Nelson has confirmed it stating the following via his blog linked above:

Xbox 360 Console banning: I've gotten a few messages and seen some forum threads pop up on console bannings so I thought I'd post and let folks know what's up.

In our our continued effort to keep gameplay safe and secure for our community of more than 14 million members, Microsoft has taken action against a small percentage of Xbox 360 consoles that have been illegally modified in order to play pirated games.

You should know that modifying your Xbox 360 console is also a violation of the Xbox LIVE terms of use, will void your warranty and result in a ban from Xbox LIVE.

The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive, both from manufacturers and the local companies that support them.

We will continue to employ and bolster anti-piracy security measures to counter piracy in the gaming...

According to reports, today they have issued a new wave of bans against XBox 360 consoles with modified DVD firmware. That being said, it's recommended to stay off XBL for the time being if you have a modified system until further details are available.

To quote: Dunno if its a massive wave or not, but my console was literally just banned from live within the hour.

If anyone else gets banned let me know please. iXtreme 1.4 and all games were burned right and stealthed.

MTV: NXE Won't Have XBox Live Arcade Auto-Downloading

50°
299w ago - Microsoft has revealed to MTV that the XBox Live Arcade auto-downloading feature include in the current dashboard will be disabled for the New XBox Experience launch. However, Microsoft did say that it may come back in a future release.

To quote: November's New Xbox Experience mandatory firmware upgrade may add many handy options to the Xbox 360 console, but contrary to early reports from E3, it doesn't quite retain all the functionality of the original 360 dashboard.

While messing around with the New Xbox Experience on my home 360 last week, I had trouble finding my second favorite feature from the old dashboard: Xbox Live Arcade auto-downloading.

That feature allowed me to set my 360 to download demos of every new XBLA game any time I entered my XBLA games library and there was new content available. I was a big fan of the feature, because it enabled new games to come to me rather than me having to know about them and seek them out. Auto-downloading is not in the NXE.

When I was given a demo of NXE last week, I mentioned that I liked auto-downloading almost as much as I liked spying on the gaming habits of my friends on my buddy list. Microsoft v.p. John Schappert turned to me and said, "You actually use that?" He would know better than me how popular it is.
