Sixaxis not sensitive enough for aiming in Resident Evil 5

300°
342w ago - Jun Takeuchi has said that the PlayStation 3's Sixaxis controller wasn't a viable option for aiming in Resident Evil 5.

Responding to an inquiry from a European journalist, who raised the prospect of a PS3 control system similar to Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Takeuchi said Sony's much-maligned motion-sensing controller "was not quite sensitive enough for that".

Takeuchi expressed his fondness for the PS3, though, calling it "a great system". "We're really pleased with it, and certainly as with other developers we did have problems getting to grips with it at first, but now understanding how it works it allows us to do a lot of things we couldn't do before," he said through a translator at Capcom's Captivate 08 event in Las Vegas.

Six teams vie for Satellite Prize

50°
348w ago - Six teams of students are vying for the chance to build an experiment for a satellite that will launch in 2010. The semi-finalists are now required to work up a final proposal for submission in August; an outright winner will be selected by judges in the Autumn.

The winning experiment is required to be about the size of a lunch box, weighing no more than 1kg. The contest is organised by the British National Space Centre (BNSC) and Surrey Satellite Technology (SSTL).

It is aimed at students between the ages of 14 and 18. It was conceived by Dr Stuart Eves, of SSTL, as an initiative for boosting interest in space science among young people. But it will be given a developmental budget of up to £100,000.

St George's College Addlestone - experiment will study the characteristics of Near-Earth space dust, which can damage orbiting spacecraft

Helston Community College - will test the ability of bacteria to survive the extreme conditions of outer space

Langton Star Centre - experiment will detect cosmic rays hitting the Earth's atmosphere

Schome Park Project - to observe "earthshine" and identify key life markers in the reflected light of the Earth

Shrewsbury School - will investigate the electrically charged...

GTA IV has SIXAXIS Controls; Mandatory HDD Install Confirmed

100°
349w ago - According to 1UP editor Andrew Pfister, the PlayStation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV contains optional SIXAXIS controls for the bike, chopper and boat vehicles.

With games like Lair, some of us have grown to dislike the SIXAXIS motion sensing controls, but it's still nice to have as an optional feature.

Moving on, Pfister revealed that the PS3 version of the game does require a certain amount of data to be installed on the HDD. Interestingly, Pfister said the installation process takes around 5 minutes. That long to install 3340KB of data?

Seems like you may actually need more free space on that HDD, but given the install time, GTA IV most likely won't take up as much space as other games like DMC 4.

PS3 SIXAXIS Controller Officially Discontinued

350°
351w ago - In a not-so-surprising statement, a Sony representative confirmed today that SIXAXIS controller will officially be on its way out with the release of the force-feedback enabled DualShock 3 later this month.

Sixaxis will no longer be offered after it's completely sold through at retail (likely by the summer timeframe).

So if you absolutely don't care about rumble support, take this as a cue to stay on the lookout for clearance deals on the old SIXAXIS controller.

PS3 version of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 full of bugs

50°
353w ago - Uh oh, it would seem as if from the masses of posts at the Official Ubi boards that the PS3 version of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is indeed full of a range of bugs.

Some of the problems include crashing PS3's, difficulity in setting-up games and even if getting online is successful, then the game is very laggy and unplayable. Ubisoft has issued a response by saying they are aware of the reported issues, and any further issues should be posted in the feedback thread (linked above).

To quote: Ubi, PS3 version online verses has numerous problems:

- 90% of games result in "Unable to establish a connnection to this game"
- If your lucky and get in, the game is either very laggy (people jumping all over the place, hit recognition not registering etc) or your immediatley disconnected and booted back to the main menu with a message "The game is no longer avialable"
- The annoying repeating helicopter sound has returned with a vengeance in this versions.
- So far in the last 24hrs its crashed my PS3 8 times ... WTF is going on?
