Supergiant Games Announce Transistor Comes to PS4 on May 20th

50°
33w ago - Supergiant Games Creative Director Greg Kasavin announced today that Transistor comes to PS4 on May 20th, 2014.

To quote: Transistor is coming soon! Mark your calendar for May 20th, 2014 – In just a few weeks, our next game will be available on PS4! We've been putting the finishing touches on it, and we think it's just about ready.

If you're not familiar with the game, Transistor is a sci-fi themed action RPG that invites you to wield an extraordinary weapon of unknown origin as you fight through a stunning futuristic city.

Gameplay seamlessly integrates thoughtful strategic planning with fast-paced action and rich atmospheric storytelling. During the course of the adventure, you'll piece together the Transistor's mysteries as you pursue its former owners.

This week at PAX East in Boston, several of us from Supergiant will be taking a short break from development to show you some of our latest progress. We'll have a near-final build of the game running on PS4, which you'll be able to get your hands on at our booth (#892). It was one year ago at PAX East that we showed Transistor for the first time!

We'll have more details about Transistor in the days leading up to our launch next month. Until then, here are some quick facts we wanted to share - stay tuned for...

Video: There Came an Echo: Voice-controlled Strategy on PS4

50°
33w ago - Iridium Studios Lead Designer Jason Wishnov shared a video today spotlighting There Came an Echo, a voice-controlled strategy game on PS4.

To quote: Hey, PlayStation fans! Quick backstory: we were making this game, and market research showed us that people who own PS4s like games.

After extensive trend analysis and writing numbers down on paper in the hopes of making it look like we knew basic mathematics, we made the executive decision to bring our title, There Came an Echo, over to the Sony side of town. There's a trailer above, which you should probably watch, but if you didn't, it's okay, we're cool.

There Came an Echo is, if you'll pardon the torrent of hyphens, a voice-controlled squad-based real-time strategy game. You don't play directly as the soldiers in the field, but rather as the tactical commander, issuing strategic orders via headset.

Ever felt annoyed when someone in your earpiece told you what to do in a blockbuster, AAA first-person shooter? Well, now, you're the someone in the earpiece. Some direct influences on the game include X-COM: Enemy Unknown and Tom Clancy's EndWar.

A lot of you might feel a little antsy about voice recognition. And we understand! But we'd...

Video: PS4 Keyboard and Mouse Support for PlayStation 4 Games Demo

100°
33w ago - Below is a demonstration video of unofficial PS4 Keyboard and Mouse support for PlayStation 4 games courtesy of electrical engineer and DIY hobbyist Frank Zhao (aka frank26080115) via Eleccelerator (linked above).

To quote: Keyboard and Mouse for PlayStation 4 Games (second prototype)

Why did you do this?

I like playing shooter games on PC but my laptop is too weak to play them. Game consoles do not support USB keyboards and USB mouse, they only support gamepads. Gamepad controls are not suitable for shooter games, using a keyboard and mouse is much more comfortable for gameplay.

How does it work?

I designed a circuit that features a microcontroller and USB hub. The keyboard and mouse plugs into the USB hub, and then the microcontroller takes the data from the keyboard and mouse, translates them to the data format used by the PlayStation 4. It does the translation in a way as though the mouse was the right thumbstick, and the keys are mapped to buttons (the WASD keys are mapped to the left thumbstick).

Tribute Games Announces Mercenary Kings is Out Today on PS4

250°
34w ago - Tribute Games Writer Yannick Belzil announced that Mercenary Kings PS4 is out today on PlayStation 4 with details below.

To quote: Here it is! The most anticipated day of 2014 from all of us at Tribute Games: the launch of Mercenary Kings on PS4!

It's a thrill for us to finally share this labor of love (and explosions, tanks, maniacal warlords...) with all of you. Mercenary Kings air drops you into a colorful world of stylized, cartoonish warfare.

When the Cybernetic Loyalist Active Weapon clan (CLAW) steals the Mandrake Formula, capable of reshaping any living thing into a dangerous weapon, King and Empress are sent in to retrieve it. CLAW's leader, Commander Byron Baron - aided with his dog Alpha and a cloned army of miscreants - controls the entire laboratory base of Mandragora Island and seeks to make it the birthplace of a new, terrifying age.

Assisted by their own crew of experts, the Kings take on a multitude of missions where they must slice and blast their way through Baron's band of bad guys, retrieve the formula, and save global peace.

Mercenary Kings might feel like something from the 16-bit past, but - like the Kings' weapons - it's crafted with brand new pieces into an explosive, modern package. Vanquished enemies drop a variety of materials that...
