Sony's PlayStation Portable May See Trophies After All

300°
244w ago - At less than two months away from the launch of the PSP Go, it now appears that portable trophies could be heading our way in the future.

In a recent interview with PlayStation: The Official Magazine, they asked if Trophies will "ever be available for PSP games?"

To quote: "It's under discussion, but there are some technical challenges," replied Shu Yoshida, SCEA Senior Vice President of Product Development.

Director of PlayStation Network Operations, Eric Lempel, previously said during E3 that we're simply "not going to see Trophies on the PSP."

His main reasoning being in the interest of "keeping it secure," as artificially increasing their ranks and Trophies "kills the whole system."

Those security issues and "technical challenges" are no doubt linked to the fact that the PSP has been hacked time and again.

Surely, a simple method to prevent the homebrew gamer from bumping their trophy count is to implement anti-cheat protection, forcing PSP trophy hunters to remain logged in to PSN to unlock the goods.

Well, at least we've...

Sony Finally Finds Smart Marketing for the PlayStation Portable

250°
251w ago - It appears the idea of console exclusives is over with the recent announcement of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for PlayStation Portable.

The Nintendo DS version has been out on the market since March 17, 2009, plenty of time for the Grand Theft Auto fanatic to either purchase the game for the DS or go and buy a Nintendo DS just so it could be played.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is the third GTA title to release on the PlayStation Portable after GTA: Liberty City Stories and GTA: Vice City Stories. It makes sense on a business level for Sony to start pushing for more titles on the PlayStation Portable, and even more so the upcoming PSP Go.

Sony needs to properly support the PSP Go from launch. They cannot afford to release the new PSP and leave it on the market for a couple months before properly supporting it. This is primarily because of the PSP Go's lack of UMD drive.

Granted, gamers could use the PlayStation Store to download PSOne Classics or even some older PSP titles onto the PSP Go, but where will the money be at? The new downloadable titles. With Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars releasing around the same time, there is a title that will help sell the PSP Go for early...

Introducing Unbound Saga for Sony's PlayStation Portable

100°
252w ago - Today Vogster Entertainment's Senior Producer Mike Kennedy has introduced Unbound Saga for Sony's PSP console, as follows:

Unbound Saga is an old-school, arcade-style brawler that puts you in the shoes of Rick Ajax, a surly comic book tough guy trapped in a world of endless trouble.

The thing is, he knows he's a comic book character, and after 30 years of dealing with one ridiculous plotline after another, he's had about enough. So you get to take him on an epic adventure to escape the pages of the comic in search of The Maker, the mysterious entity responsible for his daily misadventure.

So why make it a brawler? Well, aside from the logical activity perpetuated by the lead character, we frankly couldn't get enough brawlers growing up in the 8-bit and 16-bit days, and there doesn't seem to be enough of 'em coming out any more these days. We were hooked on games like Streets of Rage, Final Fight, TMNT Arcade, X-men Arcade, Captain American and The Avengers, etc.

They were colorful, visceral, over-the-top, and tons of fun. The gameplay was easily accessible, with simple to understand controls – Punch, Kick, Grab, Throw – that could be strung together to pull off easy-to-execute combinations.

There were no blocks,...
