Absurd, Strange, and Highly Improbable Life Goal: Will You Help?

250°
279w ago - So I recently came up with something I can do that would let me die accomplished: I want to play a game that was never programmed.

I've been thinking about it for about a week now, but haven't done much research on it but I came to these few conclusion so far:

• The game will essentially be "randomly" created
• The simplest "terminal" for the project would be NES
• The generated file should be between 5KB and 25KB, and follow the rules for zip compression. (This is the part that makes everything improbable -there are 7.4583407 E1125 possible files that could be produced (expanded example below) (25000^256))
• The production of the file will have a initial seed, and ideally keep a log of tested values
• Ideally a check on the NES ROM should also be performed.
• With the number of possibilities, the likelyhood of a game being produced is just as probable as a picture Pam Anderson loading up or even the first few lines of a Shakespeare play, or Beethoven's Symphony.
• A user in control of the produced random value can copy/paste, a known value, and easily load a game such TETRIS...(I can't quite understand if this would be violation of Copyright Law (I compare it to throwing a tomato on the ground and it coming out being just like Mario))

Sony Contemplating Lawsuit Over Change4Life Ad

400°
284w ago - If you haven't figured it out, the child is playing a video game with a controller similar to those of Sony's PlayStation brand.

Why is this such an issue? The company who was in charge of the ad, The Gate, did not seek permission from the gaming giant in order to utilize the obvious likeness of its controller.

The Change4Life ad campaign has been started by the British government in order to bring attention to the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle. The image, which depicts a young child playing video games, gives off the impression that playing video games instead of going outside may lead to an early death.

A handful of other prominent companies in the gaming industry have already spoken out against this ad, including Sega, Atari, Future Publishing, TIGA, ELSPA and MCV.

It's not set in stone yet whether or not SCEE plans on going through with legal action against either The Gate or potentially the British government itself, but the image is definitely provocative from a gamer's point of view. That's not to say we don't value exercise - we love our sports and physical activities as much as everyone else - but gaming can certainly be part of a healthy lifestyle.

We'll be sure to watch closely as this develops.

SCEE Boss Not Sure if PS3 Will Last its 10-Year Lifespan

250°
286w ago - One of Sony's main arguments to defend against the Xbox 360 is the PlayStation 3's longevity. They once even said that the console is future-proof, and will last longer than the PS2 will.

But now, even SCEE prez David Reeves isn't sure the console will go completely through its supposed 10-year lifespan, saying:

The competition will have new models on the market by the end of the PS3. I have no doubt and we'll have to be fast on our feet... I don't know whether the PS3 lifespan will be eight, nine or ten years.

He does add though, that the PlayStation 4 is not "on the horizon" yet. And it really shouldn't be - even Microsoft's Robbie Bachexpects this generation to last longer than previous ones.

PSP Nokia Battery Mod, Lighter And 150% Lifetime of the Original

350°
292w ago - A quick story resulting in a quick hack job... LordLeXaT's PSP battery broke, and with no money to buy a new one, he turned to his MacGyver box set to determine the best possible route... a modification that allows him to use a Nokia battery as follows:

What you see below is a standard Nokia battery (BL-5C) pack used with the original PSP battery control board. So now that all is said and done, LordLeXaT has a longer lasting battery than most of you, or so he says.

"The battery is lighter and has nearly 150% lifetime of the original 1800mAh PSP battery, and by the way, the text of the Nokia battery reads 1020mAh."

We don't have a tutorial for you, but for the most part, it seems straightforward. And please, exercise caution should you attempt this battery mod yourself.

296w ago - Below is an entertaining video I uploaded a few days ago.

It shows what a "real life" Super Mario would be doing!

The video is below, via YouTube:
