Hands-on with Diablo III (and Reaper of Souls) on PlayStation 4

50°
45w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Justin Massongill is here with a hands-on look at Diablo III (and Reaper of Souls) on PlayStation 4 below!

To quote: I'm here in Anaheim for [Register or Login to view links], and as anyone who knows me might have guessed, the first thing I did when I got here was make a beeline for the Diablo III booth to get some hands-on time with its in-development PS4 version.

Let's get the obvious stuff out of the way first: Diablo III looks good on PS4. The demo I played didn't stutter or hitch once - the PS4 version runs at 1080p and 60FPS or better throughout, as confirmed by Production Director John Hight when I spoke with him on the show floor.

Everything looks tack-sharp, and plenty of extra bits have been added or tweaked in Diablo III's PS4 version. Just wait 'til you see the glow of a freshly dropped health globe reflected in a pool of stagnant water.

Diablo III's DualShock 4 controls are still being tweaked and perfected, but the touchpad implementation today was largely gesture-based, swiping left and right to switch to different inventory and skill subsections. It's pretty hard to improve on the perfection of Diablo III's radial menus as they are on PS3, but DualShock 4′s touchpad makes for a suitable change of...

Killzone Shadow Fall: Campaign Hands-on, PS4 Multiplayer Footage

50°
46w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman announced details and a fresh trailer today for the Killzone Shadow Fall PS4 Multiplayer campaign!

To quote: Official Killzone Shadow Fall Game Page

It's been 30-odd years since the events of Killzone 3, and my, how things have changed. The fearsome Helghast are now refugees, their homeworld annihilated in a nuclear firestorm. In a desperate bid for survival, the surviving Helghast emigrate to an idyllic planet controlled by their mortal enemies, the ISA.

Unrest simmers, leading to the construction of a vast security wall intended to separate the Vektan haves from the Helghast have-nots. A long, fragile peace is shattered following a terrorist strike (seen in Killzone Shadow Fall's February 20th at [Register or Login to view links]), prompting the ISA leadership to bring out the big guns. That'd be you, elite Shadow Marshal operative Lucas Kellan. Your mission is simple: Restore order at any cost.

Launch game or no, Killzone Shadow Fall's campaign is a visual stunner on PS4, rendering a smorgasbord of reflections, dynamic lighting, and billowing smoke at a razor-sharp 1080p native resolution (1920 x 1080). It's as if developer Guerrilla Games wanted to cast off every...

Video: Sony Goes Hands-on with The Witness on PS4 / PlayStation 4

50°
47w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Justin Massongill went hands-on today with The Witness on PlayStation 4 with a fresh PS4 video trailer below, as follows:

Shortly after I heard the phrase "PlayStation 4" for the very first time, I received a blog post, a [Register or Login to view links] and a [Register or Login to view links] for a game called The Witness, from legendary game designer, Jonathan Blow. This was my first exposure to the impending next generation of video games.

My excitement for The Witness may, admittedly, be amplified by my sentimental nature (it is the first PS4 game I ever laid eyes on, after all). After getting a chance to play it at an event last week, however, I'm relieved to know that my excitement is justified.

Jonathan Blow helped to bring mainstream attention to the indie game development movement with his modern classic, Braid, which famously twisted the minds of gamers worldwide into knots. As such, it should be expected that the challenges you'll face in The Witness will put your mental capacity to the test.

Thankfully, you won't jump straight into the mind-numbing brain-twisters - The Witness is designed in such a way that you'll be gradually introduced...

Video: Sony Goes Hands-on with NBA 2K14 on PS4 / PlayStation 4

50°
47w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on today with NBA 2K14 on PlayStation 4 complete with a PS4 video below.

To quote: The dedicated team behind the next-gen edition of NBA 2K14 has an eye for detail. And not just a normal, everyday eye; they have hundreds of eyes, hell-bent on making this the best basketball experience in video game history.

Their passion just about bled onto the floor of a crowded San Francisco bar earlier this week as they presented NBA 2K14 running on PS4. It was easy to see, from the first trailer to the final multiplayer tease, that NBA 2K14 is visually arresting, and damn fun to play.

As the footage of NBA 2K14 looped over the massive bar displays, the team were insistent that the PS4 version was not a simple port job. It was built from the ground up for next-gen tech, and they made their point by announcing the brand new engine powering the action: Ecomotion.

The art assets in NBA 2K14 have been built from scratch - not a single legacy piece of art remains from the current-gen version. As Studio Art Director Anton Dawson said at the demonstration, making this look like a real, next-gen basketball game came down to "thousands of little things, and the interconnectedness of those thousands of little things."

Zoom in close...

Hands-on with Knack on PS4 / PlayStation 4: Delightfully Deceptive

100°
47w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on today with Knack on PlayStation 4 describing the upcoming PS4 title as delightfully deceptive.

To quote: Just after the titular hero, Knack, punched a goblin clear off the screen, knocking his armor into a nearby river, it hit me: Knack, a PS4 launch title, looks stellar.

It runs as smooth as silk, and brims with details both big and small. With a family-friendly atmosphere and a charming lead character, Knack seems like a great experience for young - or just newer - gamers. But gaming veterans take note: Knack will surprise you.

It was a delightful surprise, of course, softened only by Game Director Mark Cerny's presentation just minutes before our hands-on session, in which he mentioned how tough Knack can be on higher difficulty levels. Cerny and his team want Knack to be enjoyable for all sorts of gamers, including those who expect a fierce challenge in their platformers.

Getting a feel for Knack (And its hero, Knack!) takes minutes, at most. Knack can run, jump, attack, and use super-powered moves fueled by sun stones. Gamers of all skill levels can pick up these controls without a problem. But overcoming the challenges hurled at our hero is a totally different story.

During the latest Knack demonstration,...
