Video: Dust 514's Open Beta for PlayStation 3 Goes Live Today

200°
78w ago - CCP Games Creative Director and Praetorian Atli Mar Sveinsson has announced that Dust 514's open Beta for PlayStation 3 officially goes live today!

Below are the details, to quote: Pioneering PlayStation community! We've reached an exciting milestone in our development of DUST 514: the open beta. Some of you may already be familiar with the concept after having followed our dev blogs or news articles, or perhaps you have been helping us in the closed beta.

But some may be hearing about this for the first time. I would like to give you guys a quick overview on the game, and the new phase of development, the open beta.

What is DUST 514?

DUST is a PS3-exclusive triple-A free-to-play MMOFPS (massively multiplayer online first person shooter), directly set in and connected in real time with the science fiction universe of EVE Online.

What that means is that not only is DUST a full-fledged MMOFPS in its own right, with unrivaled persistence and customization, it also coexists on the same servers as its older PC sibling, EVE Online. DUST and EVE share several game systems such as mail, text and voice chat, corporations, the in-game market and more.

Not only are the players of the two games able to communicate with each other and belong to the...

Sony Goes Hands-on with Street Fighter X Tekken for PS Vita

100°
93w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman has gone hands-on today with Street Fighter X Tekken for the PS Vita handheld console.

To quote: I recently spent some hands-on time with a near-complete version of Street Fighter X Tekken for PS Vita, ahead of its October 23rd PSN and retail launch.

And I've gotta say, it's the spitting image of its PS3 bigger brother with big, bold characters and detailed backgrounds running at PS Vita's native screen resolution. But peer underneath those pretty graphics and you'll find a wealth of new extras that make this the definitive version of Capcom's crossover fighter.

The game comes equipped with every DLC fighter from the PS3 version - including PlayStation exclusives Cole McGrath, Kuro, Toro, Mega Man and Pac-Man, of course - as well as alternate costumes for every character in the base roster.

Another nice touch is the ability to customize your character's costume color, then share it with friends via PS Vita's integrated geo-social app "near." It's also worth noting that any DLC costumes or Gems you purchased for the PS3 version will port over to the PS Vita version at no extra cost.

PS Vita's front touchscreen is leveraged in several ways, most notably to create virtual buttons on the screen that you can reposition, resize,...

Video: Until Dawn PS3 Q&A: Teen Horror Goes SuperMassive

50°
94w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman has posted up a video and Q&A today on the Until Dawn PS3 teen horror game from SuperMassive below.

To quote: Last month's debut of PlayStation Move-based horror game Until Dawn generated enough intrigue to propel the game onto at least one news site's best of gamescom list.

And after watching a 30-minute gameplay demonstration of this cheeky horror game at gamescom, it wasn't hard to see why.

The game oozes confidence and style: its immersive use of the PlayStation Move motion controller (from flipping levers to tugging zippers), rapid-fire banter, and unabashed reliance on genre tropes all point to a game that's determined to push horror gaming into uncharted territory.

It's important to note that Until Dawn is firmly a teen horror game, trading in the healing herbs and bullet counting of the survival-horror genre for quips, jump scares, and salacious scenarios that wouldn't seem out of place in Friday the 13th or I Know What You Did Last Summer.

After Until Dawn's gamescom debut, I had a chance to speak with [Register or Login to view links]'s executive creative director Will Byles, who discussed the game's genesis, HUD-free presentation,...

Sony Goes Hands-On with Assassin's Creed III: Liberation PS Vita

50°
96w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman has gone hands-on today with Assassin's Creed III: Liberation on the PS Vita console!

Below are the details, to quote: Last week, [Register or Login to view links] graciously offered members of the gaming media the first opportunity to go hands-on with Assassin's Creed III for PS3 and Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, the upcoming PS Vita-bound chapter set against the backdrop of Spanish occupation in 18th century Louisiana.

Both games, of course, demonstrated plenty of promise: ACIII for its Revolutionary War-era pomp and Skyrim-rivalling scale, ACIII: Liberation for its sultry new setting and uncanny attention to detail.

But in the five days since the hands-on session, I've unexpectedly found myself reflecting more on my experiences with Liberation. Seeing the series' sprawling, hyper-detailed environments and fluid gameplay so faithfully recreated on PS Vita's luminous 5'' screen bordered on startling.

Protagonist Aveline also struck me as an interesting character with unique motivations, and the game's untapped 18th-century Louisiana setting seems like it could pay off in a big way.

Refined by leaps and bounds compared to its early E3 showing, the updated build of Liberation I played...

Sony Goes Behind The PS One / PS2 Classics with MediEvil

250°
98w ago - Following up on their previous lookback, today Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton goes behind the PS One / PS2 Classics with the popular MediEvil PlayStation video game.

To quote: The second entry in our Behind the Classics series is a real lost gem - SCE Cambridge Studios' wild, wacky supernatural adventure MediEvil.

First released on PSOne back in 1998, it put you in the shoes of Sir Daniel Fortesque - an undead knight unwittingly reanimated by the evil sorcerer Zarok who embarks on a quest to liberate the kingdom of Gallowmere.

A sequel followed in 2000, with a PSP remake also popping up on PSP in 2005, however, it's the original game that remains most embedded in the memory.

With Sir Dan soon to enjoy a comeback of sorts as a playable character in PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale, we sat down with original designer Chris Sorrell to find out more about the game's development.

PlayStation.Blog: What was the original concept for the game? Did you draw inspiration from anywhere in particular for the game's look and feel?

Chris Sorrell, Game Designer, MediEvil: The first design proposal for the game had the working...
